2 Years Ago Def Leppard's HYSTERIA 30th Anniversary Edition Released

Hysteria 2017.

Def Leppard's Hysteria 30th anniversary edition album was released on this day in 2017 to celebrate the album's 1987 release.

The new version was released on Friday 4th August to mark 30 years since the original 20 million-plus selling album was first issued.

The third time the album has been released after the 2006 Deluxe Edition (of fourth if you count the 1987 picture disc version).

The set was issued by UMC/Mercury Records with Joe Elliott as executive producer and mastered by Ronan McHugh.

Like he'll go: 'You remember that time you know we were in the basement in Hilversum studios in Holland one night and they needed this extra track and there was this edit'. And it's like no. He said: 'Well I've got a version of it'. You know so he's been collecting all this stuff over the years. So it's great because you know all this stuff kind of exists in his basement and you know he - we keep all this stuff."

"So it's exciting when something like that happens and you can actually bring this stuff out. And it's actually gets a second life. You know it's a - or even a first life in some cases. Some of this stuff kind of was just hidden and has kind of surfaced for the first time. So yeah that's pretty much how it works you know everyone kind of does a different thing in the band and we all kind of work towards the greater we which is the band itself. So yeah that's exciting."

Def Leppard's fourth album Hysteria, released in August 1987, topped the UK and U.S. album charts. It has been certified 12 x Platinum in the U.S. and has gone on to sell over 25 million copies worldwide.

The album spawned seven hit singles, including the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 number one "Love Bites", alongside "Pour Some Sugar on Me", "Hysteria", "Armageddon It", "Animal", "Rocket", and "Women".

The album's goal, set out by producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange, was to be a hard rock version of Michael Jackson's Thriller, in that every track was a potential hit single. Songs were therefore written with this concept in mind.

This 30th anniversary Super Deluxe Edition has been prepared in conjunction with singer Joe Elliott who has acted as executive producer on the set, the mastering has been done by the band’s long-serving sound engineer Ronan McHugh.

The Super Deluxe Edition comes with 5CDs consisting of the original album, various b-sides, remix versions and the first ever appearance of the ‘In the Round’ concert film audio, plus the BBC radio documentary on the album also appears for the first time.

2 DVDs are also included, containing the Classic Albums documentary, as well as the BBC Top Of The Pops appearances and the promo videos from the time.

Inside the box are 4 books, a history of the album written by Mojo and classic Rock writer Paul Elliott (no relation), a complete discography of all the releases from around the world, a photo book of rare and unseen photos by noted photographer Ross Halfin and a facsimile of the concert programme from the time.
