Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to The Joe Elliott Show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It is once again coming to you from the heart of the Nevada desert. Yes Sin City, Las Vegas where Def Leppard are five shows into a 12 show residency. And what a great time we have had. Apart from a slight touch of Vegas Throat, which in fairness everybody gets. When your fingernails crack and your lips crack you can only imagine what it does to your throat. But moisturiser and humidifiers are all good."

"What have we got for you tonight. We've got some amazing music. Gonna start off with this one for obvious reasons. Day after day after day the temperature since we arrived in Las Vegas has been over 110 degrees. For most people that is just too hot to handle."

UFO

"From the 1977 Ron Nevison produced breakout album Lights Out that is UFO with the very aptly titled Too Hot To Handle."

Tom Petty

"Yeah so if any of our nice listeners have got any better suggestions for the dry throat, the cracked fingernails, the cracked lips and the bloody noses. Answers on a postcard please because I need to know."

"And before that Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers from 1978. The album is You're Gonna Get It. We heard I Need To Know."

Bad Company

"The voice of Free, the voice of Bad Company and what a voice. That is indeed Bad Company, their second album Straight Shooter came out in 1975 featuring the fantastic vocals of one Mr. Paul Rodgers. The song we heard Wild Fire Woman."

Jimmy Page

"Now last week after back announcing Rod Stewart's version of Handbags And Gladrags I got what you might call a couple of gentle nudges by email that I'd actually got that wrong. That it was actually a Chris Farlowe song. Well the truth is it's actually a Mike d'Abo song. Mike d'Abo was the guy who wrote the song. He used to be in Manfred Mann and the fact that I actually missed the Chris Farlowe version was due to the fact that I was probably ten when I heard the Rod Stewart one and I wasn't around as an 8 year old for a single that only got to Number 33 in the charts. As I've since checked on Wikip[edia. So anyway just to make up for the fact that to me it's still a Rod Stewart song or a Stereophonics song I'm gonna play something featuring Chris Farlowe. Well this is very very different because this is Chris Farlowe singing with Jimmy Page."

"And before that the man himself singing with Jimmy Page on what turns out to be JP's only ever legit solo album. 1988's Outrider. The song Blues Anthem."

The Rolling Stones

"Another nice connection there to Mr. Chris Farlowe is that song. Out Of Time It's The Rolling Stones from 1966. The album Aftermath. ther song the Jagger/Richards composition Out Of Time which was a Number One hit single for Chris Farlowe. He covered so many Rolling Stones songs you actually run of of fingers to count them on. So well done Chris Farlowe for that."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on the wonderful Planet Rock which once again this week is coming to you from the Si City that is Las Vegas. Nevada. It is time for a little break and when we come back. A song that has been going down so well during this residency but you may be shocked when you find out which song it is."

Def Leppard

"And before that, is it due to the fact that everybody sings lead vocal and it's such a novelty. The fact that we're down on the satellite stage or it's just a great song?. I don't know. You make your own mind up, but Def Leppard from our 2015 album of the same name with the song We Belong."

Jackson Browne

"Las Vegas being such a transient town it's amazing how many people come by and say hi and then another day it's different people that come and say hi. Just a few days ago Chris Angel. Yes Chris Angel the illusionist, apparently a huge fan, he came to hang out for little while and as did Jackson Browne. He'd heard that we were in town and he's a big fan of the vocal harmonies as you could imagine. So I thought it would be nice to throw one of his songs in this week. That's the first song that I ever heard of his. I believe I saw it on The Old Grey Whistle Test. 1972. The album is called Jackson Browne. the song Doctor My Eyes."

Montrose

"Now here featuring one of the greatest rock voices of all time and a gentleman that Def Leppard opened for 40 years ago next month in the UK. Yes Mr. Sammy Hagar. This is Montrose."

"And before that Montrose the second album 1973 the album is Paper Money. What a fantastic bit of work. Great guitar playing by Ronnie Montrose. But equally fantastic singing by Sammy Hagar. the song is I Got The Fire."

Stretch

"Once in a blue moon a song comes along and just gets under your skin and it stays there for the rest of your life. That for me folks is one of those songs. That is a band called Stretch with a big hit from the mid 70s called Why Did You Do It?."

New York Dolls

"Right well from one extreme to the other. But for me just as exciting. This is the New York Dolls."

"And before that a band that Todd produced in 1973. From their debut album we heard the New York Dolls with Trash."

Todd Rundgren

"How that gentleman didn't get voted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame this year is beyond me. I shall certainly be voting for him next year when the ballot papers come out. His work rate is incredible. His production work for the likes of Meatloaf, The Psychedelic Furs and The Tubes. His work with has band the Nas. His solo work. Absolutely extraordinary and there is a fantastic example. From the album Something ANything it is Todd Rundgren with I Saw The Light."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, from the intense heat that is Las Vegas, Nevada this time of year, is about it for this week. It's been a real pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time from exactly the same spot. However we have a few days off this week so I'm gonna get out of dodge and cool down for a little while."

"So I'll leave you though with this. Last week saw the 50th anniversary of one of the most iconic and important rock festivals to ever take place on Planet Earth. I am of course referring to Woodstock. Over a three day period in August of 1969 some phenomenal artists performed. But nobody but nobody left an impression like this gentleman. He was born in Sheffield about 600 yards from where I was born. Just round the corner from where Rick Savage was born and his performance of this particular song on that festival will live in the memory of rock fans for a very long time. The live version sadly is just a little too long to play. So this is the studio version. Ladies and gentleman I give you Sheffield's own Joe Cocker with is stunning version of The Beatles song With A Little Help From My Friends. Until next week see ya."
