Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the fantastic Planet Rock. Hope you all had a great Christmas. And talking of after last week's sort of Christmas special I thought I'd do a sort of round up of 2018. Now it's not necessarily a best of, it's just me dipping into the Pandora's box of what is some brand new music, some old songs revisited and some plain old straight forward re-releases. Like this one by Paul McCartney and Wings."

Paul McCartney/Wings

"Well the original album maybe 45 years old this year but the box set that I just played that from is absolutely brand spanking new and it is a thing of beauty. The album is Red Rose Speedway. Paul McCartney and Wings. The quality of these reissues that Paul McCartney is doing is astonishing. They are a thing of beauty. And that particular album was originally scheduled to be a double album in 1973. It came out as a single so us Wings fans can now make our own minds up as to whether we prefer the double or the single because both are included in the box set. the song we just heard Big Barn Bed."

Def Leppard

"Now this next song is not 45 years old but it's no spring chicken either. In fact it is 29 years old this year. But this particular version of the song was recorded in the summer of 2018 in New York in about four hours. So without further a do this is Depeche Mode's Personal Jesus as done by Def Leppard."

"And before that from The Story So Far Best Of Def Leppard collection that just came out. A song that you may have heard if you were at one of the shows. Part of our countdown to us going on stage, Our version of Depeche Mode's classic Personal Jesus."

The Struts

"From their long awaited second album Young And Dangerous that is The Struts with 2st Century Dandy."

Last In Line

"Right then from the Leps over to one of Vivian Campbell's many side projects. This is brand new Last In Line."

"Before that it's brand new. The album is called Last In Line II. It's due out in February. The song we heard Landslide."

Uriah Heep

"The album came out in September. It is called Living The Dream. It is Uriah Heep. I got a lovely text from Mick Box actually this Christmas. It's good to know he's still Living The Dream. And the song we heard Grazed By Heaven."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back, we're gonna set foot in a brave new world with Greta Van Fleet."

Greta Van Fleet

"And before that from the album Anthem Of The Peaceful Army we heard Greta Van Fleet with Brave New World."

The Last Internationale

"Well seeing as I've just taken delivery of that album I'm still getting used to I, but I do like what I've heard so far. And forgive me I'm still really not sure how you pronounce the name of the band so I'm gonna go with The Last Internationale. It was the title track of the album Soul On Fire."

Roger Daltrey

"How here's a couple of songs from what I would call rock royalty. One from his brand new solo album and one a live version of a very old Free track. Yeah there's your clue. This, though, is Roger Daltrey."

"And before that Roger Daltrey. Brand new from his solo album As Long As I Have You. The song Get On Out The Rain."

Paul Rodgers

"From his latest live album Free Spirit that is the mighty Paul Rodgers with a Little Bit Of Love. A song I love so much that Def Leppard actually covered it on the YEAH! album back in 2006."

Alice Cooper

"So let's stick with some live re-workings for the next couple of songs shall we. Starting off with Planet Rock's own Alice Cooper."

"And before that Alice Cooper from the live album A Paranormal Evening At The Olympia recorded in Paris. Released earlier this year. In fact another song that Def Leppard covered once. It is Under My Wheels."

David Bowie

"It's a fact that when an artist passes away some record companies can exploit that fact. So much so that the quality of their work can tend to dip a little. Not true with this particular release however. It is Glastonbury 200. It is the late great David Bowie and Rebel Rebel."

Show Outro

"And that my friends, on what is my last show of the year 2018, is about it for this week. In fact that's about it for this year obviously. I shall be back with you next week at exactly the same time. Which means I will be back with you next year at exactly the same time if you get my drift."

"Anyway whatever, I'm gonna leave you with this. And this is well worth following up on folks because this is for a very good cause. It is a charity single and it is by Glen White and McManus. That's who it is credited to. They are ex members of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band, Rainbow and the Mama's Boys. But it also features Zal Cleminson of SAHB. It features Bernie Tormé once of Ozzy Osbourne and Waysted. And it also features the Troon Pipe Band. I'll say no more other than the title of the song which is a great sentiment to end the show with. It's A Long Way To the Top (If You Wanna Rock And Roll). Till next week Happy New Year everybody and see ya!."
