The JOE ELLIOTT Show 7th April 2018 Playlist/Transcript

Joe Elliott 2018. By Chele Drappel

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott hosted another edition of his weekly radio show last night on Planet Rock.

This week's show included songs by Cheap Trick, T. Rex and David Bowie.

Joe said it was the 400th show but going back all the way to the 300th show on 14th May 2016 it was actually show #399.

If you would like to check yourself (if you're also nuts) - go back through show links at the bottom of the page to that date. Or use your calendar.

Solution? - no longer numbering the shows. Perhaps someone can email him and also add - "BTW the release dates you've adopted for The Def Leppard E.P. and High 'n' Dry are also both wrong.".

The full playlist is shown below and a full transcript.

The show is available until next Saturday using the On Demand feature. It is also repeated on Tuesdays at 9pm.

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. And guess what tonight, tonight is my 400th show for this fantastic radio station. 400 and counting. What are we gonna do that's special?. Well not really anything other than just play some fantastic music. I'm alright. I hope you're alright. Which basically means we're alright. Which means it's Cheap Trick."

Cheap Trick

"They are releasing albums at a rate of knotts at the moment those guys. That's from their latest album which came out towards the end of last year. It is called We're Alright. They are Cheap Trick. The song we heard Like A Fly."

Roxy Music

"Now I'm guessing that this next song is about a candle."

"And before that Roxy Music from their 1975 classic album Siren. We heard the massive hit single Both Ends Burning."

Wayward Sons

"They recently won the Best New Band as voted by the listeners and readers of Planet Rock. Proper order and I have to say Toby Jepson over the years has proved himself to be a fantastic songwriter. And a great choice of drummers too because he has Phil Martini of the Down 'n' Outz. Or moonlights with the Down 'n' Outz these days as he is now a full time member of the Wayward Sons. And there from their debut album Ghosts Of Yet To Come we just heard I Don't Wanna Go."

T. Rex

"Now this is interesting. Although it goes back to 2012 I've actually never heard this before."

"And before that his buddy from back in the late sixties , actually mid sixties really. Marc Bolan/T. Rex reworked by Tony Visconti in 2012. It is a reworking of the song Jeepster mostly. The song these days is called Child Like Men."

David Bowie

"They were muckas back in the day and hopefully they are muckas up on cloud number nine because they are sadly neither of them with us any more. That is David Bowie from 1970 the album Man Who Sold The World. The song Black Country Rock."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on the wonderful Planet Rock. It's time for one of those little breaks and when we come back, we're gonna pay tribute to yet another fallen warrior."

Spooky Tooth

"And before that we paid tribute to one Mr. Mike Harrison the lead singer of Spooky Tooth who sadly passed away earlier this week. It's a song which you could actually argue invented sludge metal. It is their incredibly sludgy version of The Beatles' I Am The Walrus. Rest in peace Mike Harrison."

Jethro Tull

"Still can't believe I actually performed that song with Ian Anderson just before Christmas at Bradford Cathedral. What a great time that was. That is the original version of course from way back in 1970. That is Jethro Tull from the 25th anniversary special edition of Aqualung. The track Locomotive Breath."

Crosby, Stills And Nash

"He like all of us when we finally pop off this mortal coil will be a long time gone. As told by Crosby, Stills And Nash."

"And from their Greatest Hits collection we heard his part time buddies Crosby, Stills And Nash with a fantastic bit of work Long Time Gone."

Neil Young

"Well I thought I'd lump 'em in together even though they're apart. Hope that makes sense if you're a fan of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young because that was Neil Young with his tale. His woeful tale of The Needle And The Damage Done from his Greatest Hits collection."

Heavy Metal Kids

"Now with the often, and too often for my liking, recurrence of dead rock stars on this show. Who better to take us on a trip about said subject than the Heavy Metal Kids."

"And before that the Heavy Metal Kids from their 1976 album Kitsch, which was produced by Mickie Most, we heard the song From Heaven To Hell & Back Again."

Alice Cooper

"Is it the pinnacle of his work?. Well I suppose it depends where you came in. A lot of people will say that it was Welcome To My Nightmare. Some of us will say it's some of his more recent recordings. But overall people do tend to think that Billion Dollar Babies sets the mark of absolute quality for Alice Cooper and the original Alice Cooper band back in 1973 when that album came out it took the world by storm. And there a fantastic bit or work from that album called Generation Landslide."

Show Outro

"And that my friends on what is my 400th show for Planet Rock, quite unbelievable really, is about it for this week. It has been as always a pleasure. I shall be back with you god willing next week at exactly the same time."

"So until then let's go out with what I would call a classic bit of UK rock. Blues rock or just rock. don't mind what you call it as long as we both agree that it is the mighty Status Quo. From their album Piledriver this is Paper Planes. Until next week see ya!."
