Def Leppard played the first show of their 2017 South American Tour last night in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil with 14 songs performed.

The show took place at the Rock In Rio festival in front of over 100,000 fans.

The band last played Rio on 22nd April 1997 on the Slang Tour.

The first time the band have played this famous festival which was headlined by Aerosmith.

Scalene and Fall Out Boy also performed by Def Leppard. The first of 8 shows in South America.

The band's only previous visit to Brazil was in April 1997 on the Slang tour with shows in Sao Paulo and Rio.

The Rio show, like Sao Paulo, was in a small venue and not well attended. The second scheduled show in Sao Paulo was cancelled due to lack of tickets sales.

Def Leppard had been due to play the original Rock In Rio festival in January 1985 at two shows supporting AC/DC and Queen. They pulled out before Rick's car accident to continue working on 'Hysteria'.

They were announced to perform on 11th January 1985 playing before Iron Maiden and headliners Queen.

Then for a second show on 19th January 1985 before Scorpions and headliners AC/DC. The Queen shows on 11th and 18th January of that year attracted crowds of over 250,000 people. Def Leppard were replaced by Whitesnake.

The band took the stage at 10:35pm local time .

The first show since the summer North American run ended in Indianapolis, IN on 25th June and following a few days of rehearsals in California.

The entire show was broadcast live by Globo TV in Brazil. Phil was interviewed just after coming off stage with his words dubbed over into Portuguese.

LiveXLive had secured the rights to stream sets worldwide on their website with Def Leppard not on their schedule at first but it turns out (as seen on the fan videos) that they were along with Scalene, Fall Out Boy and Aerosmith.

The usual 2017 tour setlist was played with three of the 17 songs left out for this show. 'Dangerous', 'Foolin'' and 'Rock On' were not played.

New songs 'Let's Go' and 'Man Enough' plus 'Let It Go' were all played for the very first time in Rio. Brazilian band Scalene's opening set included the song 'Histeria'.

The stage set up was almost identical to the one used in North America with a much larger video screen set up behind Rick's drum kit.
