Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. This week it is coming to you all the way from Monterrey in Mexico on what is not only the last night of our South American tour, it's the last show of 2017. We have some wonderful music for you tonight. Sixty minutes of it in fact. Some of it from bands brand new to me. Some of it bands that we're playing with tonight and we're also gonna pay homage and tribute to the most wonderful musician in the name of Mr. Tom Petty. That all comes later on. But right now let's get the show started with this brand new from Greta Van Fleet."

Greta Van Fleet

"Well for me close your eyes and you are listening to an 18 year old Robert Plant right there. But that is actually a band called Greta Van Fleet. Brand new EP out called Black Smoke Rising. The song Highway Tune."

Last Great Dreamers

"Now as we all know that this is not a request show, but over the last couple of weeks I've been hounded. Yes I'm using that word. I have been absolutely hounded to play these next couple of songs. So without further ado this is the Last Great Dreamers."

"And before that we heard a band called The Last Great Dreamers with a song called Ashtray Eyes."

Def Leppard

"Featuring some fantastic guitar work there by the late great and sadly missed Steve Clark. That is the mighty Leps. Live from about February 1988 at McNichols Arena in Denver, Colorado. Originally a VHS tape called In The Round-In Your Face. Now you can find it as a bonus disc in the Hysteria at 30 box set that just came out a couple of months back."

Riverdogs

"So from the much missed Steve Clark to his replacement. Moonlighting in yet one of his other side projects. This is not Last In Line, but this is Vivian Campbell and Riverdogs."

"And before that Riverdogs from their new album California with the song The Revolution Starts Tonight."

Tesla

"Some great artists playing with us on the festival tonight. The likes of Tyler Bryant and Buckcherry, who we shall be listening to later on in the show. Vince Neil, Alice Cooper and that band that we just heard there, Tesla. That's a single that came out in 2016 produced by Phil Collen. The song is called Save That Goodness."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show all the way from Monterrey in Mexico this week. Time for a little break, when we come back. We're gonna pay tribute to the most wonderful Mr. Tom Petty."

Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers

"And before that from a what is absolute gold dust now. An Official Live 'Leg four track EP by Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers. The live version of Fooled Again (I Don't Like It)."

Traveling Wilburys

"I wrote a few words on the Def Leppard social media sites just a few days ago about Tom Petty. My connection with Tom Petty was tenuous at best. I met him in 1978 backstage at the Sheffield City Hall when he was the opening act for Nils Lofgren. When he kindly signed my album sleeve. And once again when Def Leppard were having a day off on the 1983 Pyromania tour. He was obviously having a day off too. We were in the same town. We bumped into each other in, the strangest places, a bowling alley. But we had a few laughs and a few drinks. More importantly though my connection is with his music. He left behind a phenomenal legacy of music. And there we just heard him with the Traveling Wilburys from the album Volume I with a song ironically, End of the Line."

The Byrds

"One of the things I admired most about Tom Petty was his enthusiasm to acknowledge the artists that really influenced his musical style. And these next couple of bands, he name checked them time after time after time. Starting off here with The Byrds."

"And before that The Byrds featuring the wonderful Roger McGuinn with hey Mr. Tambourine Man written of course by Mr. Bob Dylan."

The Kinks

"Taken from their Ultimate Best Of Collection that is The Kinks with the fantastic Dave Davies penned song called Death Of A Clown."

Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown

"OK so moving away from Tom Petty for just a little while and back to tonight's rock fest. You may remember last week when we did a festival I mentioned that Alice Cooper was also on the bill with us. Well, the mind gets a little foggy sometimes when you're on the road and he wasn't on the bill last week. He is however on the bill tonight. But this next gentleman was on the bill last week and again tonight. His name is Tyler Bryant."

And before that Tyler Bryant with his band The Shakedown from the album of the same name with the song Heartland.

Buckcherry

"I remember seeing that band back in about 1999 at the Whisky A Go Go on the Sunset Strip with Phil Collen and we both thought they were gonna be the next Guns N' Roses they were that good. Sadly it didn't quite pan out. Through line-up changes and disappearing for a while and then making a pretty good comeback in fairness. They are still a fantastic band. They are Buckcherry and from the album 15 we just heard the song Everything."

Show Outro

"And that my friends all the way from all the way from Monterrey in Mexico. On what is the last night of Def Leppard's South American tour and indeed the entire year, is about it for this week. I shall be back with you next week from, well let's just hope some exotic secret location. I will be back however."

"I'm gonna leave you with this tonight. Once again we're gonna go back to paying tribute to Tom Petty. This from the YEAH! sessions in 2006 is Def Leppard and our version of his most wonderful song American Girl. Until next week see ya!."
