Def Leppard played a Hysteria European tour show in Gothenburg, Sweden on 5th March 1988 and video footage is available.

The show took place at the Scandinavium.

They were supported by M.S.G. (McAuley Schenker Group).

The first visit by the band to Gothenburg since June 1981 when they supported Rainbow at the same venue.

The 15 song setlist included the usual encore of 'Travellin' Band'.

This version saw no less than four snippets of other songs added on. Joe sang lines from 'Radar Love' (Golden Earring) and 'Mony Mony' (Tommy James & The Shondells) before longer sections of 'Rock And Roll' (Led Zeppelin) and 'Good Golly Miss Molly' (Little Richard) were played in the middle.

This show, like many on this leg of the tour, was recorded by an audience member. Two videos versions exist along with a separate audio version.

Watch three songs - 'Animal' (from video #2), 'Let It Go' and encore song 'Travellin' Band' (both from video #1) which have been posted on YouTube.

Joe Elliott - Women Intro

"Well, good evening Gothenburg. How you all doin'. You feeling alright?. Are you ready for some rock and roll?. Are you ready for some mass hysteria?. Seems to me we just got one thing missing."

Joe Elliott - Steve Clark Intro

"Thank you very much. That was the title track Hysteria from the new album and this is my very good friend Mr. Stephen Clark on the electric guitar."

Joe Elliott - BOTH Intro

"Thank you very much. Tack (thanks). And that is the limit of my Swedish I'm afraid. You'll have to make do with English. Anyway, what we'd like to do for you right now is play you one of our earlier songs. This one goes back a few years. What we're gonna do with it, is we're gonna play it a brand new way for ya. With the aid of a couple of friends of mine, commonly these days known as the Terror Twins. Namely they are Mr. Stephen Clark on his very nearly legendary 18-string Gibson razor!. And Mr. Phillip Flamenco Collen on the acoustic guitar. I hope you like it. It goes something like this."

Joe Elliott - Animal Intro

"Thank you very much. And I want, and I need, and I lust, Animal!."

Joe Elliott - PSSOM/Rick Allen Intro

"Thank you very much. Thank you. There's a line in an old Led Zeppelin song, and it goes, it's been a long time since we rock and rolled. And as you're probably well aware, it has been a long time. This is our first European tour in four and a half years. This is the second show. Of course four and a half years is a very long time and a lot of things can happen, and to this band especially, one or two things happened. You could say we experienced a few ups and a few downs. But I think I can honestly say that the biggest up we ever had, was the return of the Thundergod!.Talking 'bout Rick Allen on the drums. So Gothenburg, Sweden. We need your helping hands on this one. We wanna see everybody with their hands way up above their heads."

Joe Elliott - Phil Collen Intro (After Guitar Solo)

"Oh yeah!. (to audience member) I wanna party with you. Loud and proud from London Town. Mr. Phil Collen on the lead guitar."

Joe Elliott - Rock Of Ages Intro

"Thank you. And now four little words that mean so much."

Joe Elliott - After ROA

"Gothenburg. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks for having us. It's been a lot of fun. We'll see you soon, alright."

Joe Elliott - Photograph Intro

"Thank you very much. OK here's a little story for ya. Not so very long ago there was a lady by the name of Norma Jean. She was a model, she turned into an actress. She became a superstar. She changed her name to Marilyn Monroe and in 1983 we wrote a song about her and it goes like this!."

Joe Elliott - End Of Show Speech

"Gothenburg, Sweden. Thanks for having us. Once again thanks for having us. Until next time, and there will be a next time. Don't forget us 'cause we won't forget you. Goodnight."
