Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott hosted another edition of his weekly radio show last night on Planet Rock.

This week's show included songs by Queen, Thunder and U2.

He opened the show with a live version of U2's Vertigo from Sheffield. It was recorded on 20th August 2009 at Don Valley Stadium on their 360 tour. It has not been commercially released and is from the Hallam FM radio broadcast.

The original news story on this site about this snippet in 2009 included a download link of the same version (on megaupload...).

Bono included a snippet of PSSOM during the mid section and end of the song. Something he's only done one other time in July 2015 in Boston when the entire band saw them on their Innocence + Experience tour at TD Garden. In the Sparkle Lounge photo book the band explained they had left sent a gift package to U2's dressing room for this show which may have inspired the snippet.

The full playlist is shown below and a full transcript.

The show is available until next Saturday using the On Demand feature. It is also repeated on Tuesdays at 9pm.

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show on the very wonderful Planet Rock. Hope you're all well. You may remember that last week I ended the show with U2's Vertigo because I was just about to head out to head out the door to go and see the boys live at Croke Park in Dublin. Well, no apologies. I'm gonna do the same thing but this is a live version. A very special live version. Check out the end, if you were me you'd get goosebumps too."

U2

"Ah he's a good lad really that Bono is. That's U2 live in 2009 on their 360 tour. Live from Don Valley Stadium in Sheffield. A venue close to my heart because Def Leppard were the first band to ever headline there in 1993. Sadly it is long gone and become, I believe, a housing estate. U2 with a live version of Vertigo."

Queen

"Staying live for at least this first song. Here's a couple of tunes that name check other bands."

"And before that live from The Rainbow in 1974 we heard Queen who name checked Mott The Hoople."

The Who

"Title track of The Who's album Who Are You which namechecked T. Rex."

T. Rex

"Oh go on then let's play said namechecked bands."

"And before that from their 1972 classic album Slider we heard T. Rex with their huge hit single Telegram Sam."

Mott The Hoople

"Now there's a song that doesn't get much run out on the radio. That is Mott The Hoople from 1974. The album The Hoople. The song Pearl 'N' Roy (England)."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back, Judas Priest do a pretty fair impersonation of Queen. Surely some mistake."

Roxy Music

"Wonderful stuff there from Roxy Music's Country Life album. The song is Out Of The Blue."

Judas Priest

"And before that Judas Priest from an album called Sad Wings Of Destiny which was a huge influence on myself and Rick Savage when we first out Def Leppard together. And the song is so out of context to anything that Judas Priest have ever done since. It's a beautiful bit of work. The song is called Epitaph."

The Struts

"Right well if you're a regular listener to The Joe Elliott show you will already know that I'm a massive fan of The Struts. And this is brand new."

"And before that brand new Struts. Can't wait for the new album. The song is called One Night Only."

Thunder

"Featuring the terrifically tonsilled and fellow Planet Rock presenter Danny Bowes on lead vocals there. What a set of pipes that boy has. That is Thunder from the album Backstreet Symphony with Love Walked In."

The Babys

"OK here's a couple of bands. Late 70s. Same producer. Same label. Slightly different styles. Starting off with The Babys."

" And before that The Babys from 1979. The album Head First. The song I Was One."

UFO

"They may be well indeed slightly different styles but the drum sound is quite similar. That is because they were only recorded a few months apart by the same guy. Mr. Ron Nevison who had previously worked with Led Zeppelin. So that's why there's a kind of a Bonham-esque sound to both those songs. The one we just heard UFO from their 1987 album Obsession. The song Hot 'N' Ready."

Show Outro

"And that just about brings this week's show to an end folks. Always a pleasure. I shall be back with you next week at the same time."

"Until then we're gonna go out singled out. The album Singled Out The A Sides. The band Dr Feelgood. The song Baby Jane . Until next week see ya!."
