JOE ELLIOTT Says DEF LEPPARD's Digital Catalogue May Be Online Soon

Def Leppard 2017. Joe Elliott On talkSPORT

Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott appeared on UK radio on 4th August to promote the new Hysteria reissue and the full audio is available.

Joe spoke to Alan Brazil and co-host Dean Saunders for talkSPORT radio.

Both ex-footballers, Alan used to play for Ipswich Town and Scotland (and still makes headlines occasionally...) and Dean used to play for Liverpool, Derby County and Sheffield United and Wales.

Joe talked about , the Hysteria 30th anniversary, the reissue, 2017 tour/South American tour, Sheffield United, 40th anniversary/touring, tour injury, Hysteria cruise, his voice problems, 2018 touring/UK arena shows, his taste on music, music business, Dublin and new music.

Joe briefly talks about the next year's UK tour by saying they will (as you would expect) play arenas (you can't fit an In The Round stage in theatres!...). And mentions new music.

He also says progress is being made on the band's catalogue coming to download and streaming sites - which could be tied into the ongoing reissue series and working with Universal Music again.

Listen to the full 13 minute interview via talkSPORT (UK Only).

Joe's part starts at around 4mins into the 9:30am-10am segment. It stops for a while for sports new but he's on again with 10 mins left.

The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

Hysteria 30th Anniversary Release

2017 US Tour/South American Tour

"Oh yeah. We only just finished about five weeks ago in the States. We did a 38 date run which was tidying up the previous years stuff. And we go back out to South America in about five weeks time. We're doing Rock In Rio which is this huge thing down in Rio De Janeiro, 110,000 people."

Sheffield United

"I was born and bred in Sheffield yeah. I'm a Sheffield United fan. Our bass player's a big Wednesdayite. There's some great banter when the football season's on."

40 Year Anniversary/Tour Injury

"Yeah we've been a band for 40. The album is 30 years old. Well, it's not like soccer where you're kinda done at 32. I mean it's OK. I mean look at Mick Jagger he's like 74."

Fed up with travelling?//Knee Injury/Hysteria Cruise

"Not really - yeah the travelling's hard. But we pace it you know. We'll do a month and then we're home for two weeks. We fly. Sometimes we fly, sometimes we bus. I screwed my knee up on the bus because we did take a bus on one journey somewhere in the States through into Canada and we hit a deer. And I was up in the kitchen part of the bus and we slammed on the brakes at 70mph and I went flying down the front, smashed my knee into the fridge. So for the last two weeks of the tour I was bandaged up. You know like every footballers done it. You just have to keep, there's no, We don't have substitutes. Yeah, you've gotta run it off."

Hysteria Cruise

"We did a cruise and it was awful. We'd never do it again. The weather was so bad that we couldn't dock anywhere. The bass player in one of the other bands died in his cabin. And I lost my voice and couldn't sing so we had to get someone to step in for me. It was like I think we're cursed. Yeah it was like Pirates Of The Caribbean gone wrong."

Keeping His Voice In Shape

"Yeah well I don't socialise much any more. I had a real bad problem with my voice about 18 months ago. Actually it started on the boat and it just went. And I had to do like massive amounts of literally like vocal physiotherapy and spend about 16 months building it back up and now it's back to normal which is great. Took a bit of a bashing in the last couple of days though."

"Yeah I mean I do but I don't go out to Stringfellows till 5am and then expect too do a gig the next day. You just can't. As sensible as one can be when you're in a rock band."

Spotify/Digital Dispute

"Yeah downloads are big. Our back catalogue is not up on iTunes or anything like that because we didn't have an agreement with the record label to do it. But we're just working on that now. So hopefully all our stuff will be up."

2018 Touring/UK Arena Shows

"We've got 8 shows in South America and that finishes about the 8th October. And then we're done till next year. And then the grown ups as we like to call them are planning our next attack for next year which hopefully is gonna include a bunch of UK dates."

Any of the festivals lined up?

"Well that's a possibility too. But it's probably gonna be arenas. We wanna bring out - 'cause you can put you're own show on. When you're in festivals you're kind on other peoples gear and you can't soundcheck. You can't soundcheck because there's 100,000 people been there since the day before. And you're kind of going on a bit blind. They can be tricky especially when it always seems to rain at festivals."

Hysteria Reissue/2018 New Music

"We're just celebrating the fact that it's 30 years old you know we've dressed it up and we've put it back out. We've put everything that was ever connected to that album all together in the one box. So it's there for the uber fan if they want it you know. Hopefully next year they'll be some more new music. So onwards and upwards as they say."

The 'Hysteria 30th Anniversary Edition' was released around the world on 4th August.
