Grand Rapids, MI - Media Reviews

Def Leppard with Poison at Van Andel Arena By Emilie Rae

My first time seeing Def Leppard was certainly not a disappointment. The English rockers took their 2017 North American tour to Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on April 17 with support from Tesla and Poison.

Poison was literally the best I’d ever seen them. Bret Michael’s vocals were on point and they played all the hits. We even got a killer guitar solo from C.C. DeVille and, man, that guy can shred. Starting out with “Look What the Cat Dragged In” and closing with “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” Poison’s high-energy-set kept everyone on their feet.

Now, on to the main event. Def Leppard. They absolutely killed it. Joe Elliot’s voice is incredible, even after all these years; 40 to be exact. This band’s ability to transcend through different generations is obvious. A large amount of their success happened before I was even born, yet I found myself singing along to every song. It was also great to see parents take their young children to the show.

With a 17-song set list, they left nothing to spare. The band started out with the heavy-hitters “Let’s Go,” “Animal,” and “Let It go.” It really was just hit, after hit, after hit. Then, we got to “Pour Some Sugar on Me” and not a single person was seated. Everyone sang along to the song we all know and love, and it was so fun to watch.

The night was closed with an encore including “Rock of Ages” and “Photograph.” I really wasn’t ready for this show to be over. It was so good; 100% exceeded my expectations. Hopefully you’ve gotten the chance to catch this tour or will in the near future.

I wish I could see it all over again.

Def Leppard/Poison/Tesla Concert Review By Kay

Soon, it was time for the act of the night; the act that we came for specifically: Def Leppard. Rayne and I were incredibly excited and we couldn’t even believe we were there. As the band stepped out on stage, they were everything we expected and more. The energy was unreal, the band performing similarly to the way they did when they first began as a band in the 1970s. Lead singer Joe Elliott strutted around the stage and led the crowd in sing-a-longs to their hit songs. Highlights of the night included “Rock of Ages”, “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, “Foolin’” and “Photograph”. Everyone in the crowd could feel the passion and energy the band emanated. It was incredibly evident, that unlike some bands around their age, they still enjoy performing for the masses and sharing their music with the world. The band performed an electric encore including their hits, “Photograph” and “Rock of Ages”. It was an experience I will never forget, and one I was extremely glad to be apart of. One thing is for sure, the music of Def Leppard will live on forever, and will always be our “rock of ages”.
