5 Years Ago DEF LEPPARD Announce 2017 North American Tour w/ Poison/Tesla

Phil Collen 2011. Def Leppard 2017

Def Leppard announced a North American tour with Poison and Tesla on this day in 2017.

38 dates were announced across the USA and Canada starting in Manchester, NH on 8th April and ending in Indianapolis, IN on 25th June.

The dates were leaked ahead of time by DJ Eddie Trunk during his radio show after being handed a press release. He later spoke about the mix up on air with Phil.

The dates in Charlottesville, VA, Ontario, CA and Tuscaloosa, AL saw the band visit these cities for the very first time.

The tour was announced just ahead the live CD/DVD/Blu-ray release 'And There Will Be A Next Time...Live From Detroit' which was released worldwide on 10th February 2017.

Poison joined Def Leppard again for the third time in the special guest slot after 2009 and 2012. Tesla continued their opening slot from 2015 and 2016.

Bret Michaels had repeatedly mentioned his desire to reform Poison for a tour with Def Leppard throughout 2016. Phil had denied his claims during an interview in late 2016.

Phil then suggested the chances of a Poison tour were actually very high in early 2017.

Tickets for the tour went on sale on 20th/21st January.

Joe, Phil and Bret Michaels commented on the tour in the official press release.

Front man Joe Elliott says, “We’re thrilled to be able to take this tour to cities we didn’t play in 2016. The demand for us to return, or rather extend the tour was phenomenal! There’s a great buzz around the band right now and we’re loving the fact that we can do this with the latest album being so well received.”

Guitarist Phil Collen says, “Our last full concert DVD, excluding Viva! Hysteria, was 1987’s In The Round, In Your Face, which was shot on video. We felt an updated version was way overdue so here it is, the brand new Def Leppard concert experience.”

The tour also marks the first time in over 5 years that Poison will tour with all original members. Members including Bret Michaels, CC DeVille, Bobby Dall and Rikki Rockett. Poison has sold over 40 million records and is is set to perform some of its greatest hits including Nothin’ but a Good Time, Every Rose has its Thorn, Talk Dirty to Me, Unskinny Bop and Something to Believe In.

Front man Bret Michaels says, “I could not be more excited. I know all of us will give one thousand percent on stage and we are looking forward to performing our hits together. I personally could not be more thankful for the three generations of fans and I love the music of Def Leppard and Tesla. This will be an amazing night of rock and roll. Don’t wait because god only knows.”

Sirius XM 13th January 2017 - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

2017 Tour Dates "Leak" Explained

So I heard about this tour yesterday.

"Yeah me too, Yesterday, yeah."

Did you catch any wind Phil of the sort of mini drama that I sort of sparked?.

"No I didn't. No, what happened?."

Eddie Trunk - "Oh you didn't hear about this?. I was inadvertently, by accident, someone sent me, a few hours too soon, a press release for your tour with Poison. And it was not supposed to be sent out when it was and I went on the air with it on this show and posted it on my social media and it created a bit of a fire storm because it wasn't supposed to come out when it did. So I sort of got about four or five hours ahead of your guys announcing it because someone erroneously sent me the release."

"Fantastic. So the Eddie Trunk exclusive."

Eddie Trunk - "But it wasn't by design because your drummer Rick was texting me. He's like, 'Oh. Why would you do this?'. He was upset and I was - you guys are friends. I said I would never breach a confidence with you guys if you told me. I said I got a press release. So I forwarded it to your manager and I said look, it didn't say don't put it out at any certain time and he said' 'OH, all good, no problem somebody made a mistake'. So it was funny because I heard the Def Leppard website was actually taking the news from my website because they didn't even know it at the time."

"Fantastic. Even better. That's great."

Well, I'm here to help. I'm only here to help Phil.

"Always, absolutely."

Def Leppard/Poison 2017 Tour

Bret had been saying it from the stage from his solo shows for a while.

"Right, there you go. So he put it out there and it comes true. So what's that book?. The Secret?. Apparently that's what you do. So yeah, that works."
