Def Leppard played a 2016 Summer Tour show last night in Irvine, CA with 17 songs performed.

The show took place at the 15,000 capacity Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre.

The band's first time in Irvine since 5th July 2014 on the Summer Tour 2014 with KISS.

The 15th show the band have played in Irvine with all shows played at this outdoor venue not far from Phil Collen's home in Laguna Hills.

The first visit to Irvine took place in April 1983 as support to Billy Squier before a headline show later that same year.

After the Pyromania tour they returned in August 1988 for two shows on the outdoor leg of the Hysteria tour.

Footage from the soundcheck of one of those shows was featured in the 1988 Tour Manager's video shot by Ian Jeffery. The first night saw the band open with 'Rock! Rock!' and 'Run Riot' in place of the more usual 'Stage Fright/Rock! Rock!'.

The next visit took place in July 1993 on the Adrenalize tour when the 'Two Steps Behind' promo video live footage was filmed. The song was played two times during the show.

The next shows took place in August 1996 and October 2003 on the Slang and X/Ten tours.

Since then they have returned for shows in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

Vivian joined support act Evan Watson on stage at the 2011 show to play during his cover of Prince's Purple Rain.

Last night's show was the final appearance by the band in this venue which will be closed after two final shows by Gwen Stefani in late October. It is due to be demolished in 2017.

Joe made several mentions of this during the show including after the now usual "cellphones" moment before 'Rock Of Ages'.

The setlist remained the same. Debbi Blackwell-Cook joined Phil once again for his regular guest spot with Tesla performing 'Save That Goodness'.

Joe Elliott - Phil Collen/Dangerous Intro (partial)

"I can't believe they're actually gonna pull this f**king place down and build houses. I mean we need houses, but not here. Surely there's somewhere else but we're gonna have to find somewhere to play 'cause we will come back. Of course some of us never left did we. 26 years a resident. All back to his place afterwards for a party then right. He is of course Mr. Phil Collen. To intro one of our more recent compositions from the latest album. This one's called Dangerous."

Joe Elliott - Rick Savage/Rock On Intro

"Let's have a look at ya. This as I'm gonna keep saying all night. This is, for us, this is the last time we're gonna see you. So let's make it something pretty spectacular. We've enjoyed coming here over the years. We've been many times because there always seems to be a very welcoming audience for us and we love you for that."

"Of course we've actually been coming to this particular area of the world for a lot longer than we've been playing here. 36 years ago. We first set foot in California in May of 1980 and we played the Santa Monica Civic. Which apparently is a f**king car park as well or some f**king insurance building or whatever. And we opened for Pat Travers and it was somewhere I always wanted to play because I had a David Bowie bootleg from Santa Monica Civic which was f**king awesome. And you just wanna go to places like that and be part of the whole story."

"But our particular story goes back even further than 1980. Go in your minds let's go back to the summer of 1977. Who was alive in the summer of '77? Alright who wasn't alive in the summer of '77?. Now that's new blood coming through and we all need it. It doesn't matter who you are. We have to have people to drive this thing on and keep it going. It's this thing we love to call rock and roll. You guys old or new it doesn't matter are giving it a heartbeat. And again, every band in the world they need this so thank you. Thank you."

"That summer of 1977 in the UK which is incidentally where - it was a great year. There was some fantastic music coming out all over the world. On one side of the coin we had stuff like The Ramones and Blondie and The Clash. And on the other side of the coin we had these great that were starting to take off. Bands like Thin Lizzy, U.F.O., Queen, AC/DC. They were very inspiring if you were young and back in that summer of '77. I met for the very first time a sixteen year old kid who came round to my Mum and Dad's house because he'd heard that I had a very massive... record collection. And we got talking that night and you know in one way or another we kinda said what do you think about putting a band together and seeing what happens. Well, 39 years later!. I can honestly say, with my hand on my heart, that that sixteen year old kid is still today my best mate. Ladies and gentleman Mr. Rick Savage."

Joe Elliott - Pre-Rock Of Ages Speech

"So that's it then. This is it. We're done game over. We're not and you're not. This f**king place is but let's do something shall we. Remember the good old days when everybody used to get their lighters out, right?. Let's try it with the cell phones. Let's light this place up just for us one more time. Let's see what it looks like. And you turn around and you look at yourselves. It's gone really quiet. It's gone really quiet. Now look at that. I can't hear anything but it looks good. I said I can't hear anything! but it looks good."

"Now that is one f**king great thing for us to take away. What a great memory that is. Thank you very much Irvine. OK you can put them away now. I know this is not the last gig here but it's our last gig here. And once again just wanna thank you all for being with us all these years and wherever we meet again. We will meet again. Somewhere. Lots of love to ya. How about some love for this boy at the back here. Stand up Rick Allen!. Appropriately tonight and as always, he will introduce this one for ya."

Joe Elliott - End Of Show Speech

"Irvine Meadows, California. Thanks for coming, thanks for having us, thanks for being here. We'll see you again one day. Goodnight."

"Once again Irvine Meadows. Thank you. Thank you for all the years. We will meet again one day. Somewhere. Don't know when but we will. Until next time and there will be a next time!. Look after yourselves. And do us a big favour. Don't forget us and we won't forget you. Goodnight."
