The Joe Elliott Show #323 - Transcript

Show Intro

"Greetings one and all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the fantastic Planet Rock. It is such a privilege and pleasure to be able to do this show for everyone. Got some great music lined up for you tonight. Let's start off with some Be Bop of the Deluxe variety."

Be Bop Deluxe

"From their 1975 Roy Thomas Baker produced second album Futurama that is Wakefield's finest Be Bop Deluxe there with a song called Maid In Heaven."

Bad Company

"Now currently touring Ireland and the UK. They started last Friday in Dublin. You'll know if you've already been, they're amazing. You'll also know, if you're gonna go, they will be amazing. And god bless Mr. Paul Rodgers because he dedicated this song to me in Dublin last Friday night. So I have no choice but to play it. This is Bad Company."

"And before that Bad Company from the album Bad Company with a song originally recorded actually by Mott The Hoople. But never really released until 1980 in Germany on vinyl only on an album called Two Miles From Heaven. And it was great to see them. Mrs E and myself have been very tight with Paul Rodgers and his lady wife Cynthia for quite a while. It was great to hang out. It was really nice to see them in such great form. Simon Kirke was in very humorous form. Mick Ralphs was on fire on the guitar. And of course Paul Rodgers can sing the telephone directory backwards. So what a great night it is to see that band live. They are Bad Company."

Lone Star

"When I played a track from the Firing On All Six album a few weeks ago. I had an enormous amount of emails from people saying please don't stop playing that record. And the one song that kept coming up as a suggestion was that one that we just heard. The band is Lone Star. The album Firing On All Six and the song we just heard, the very obviously popular, Hypnotic Mover."

Wild Lies

"So from a very well established band to one hoping to be. This is Wild Lies."

"And before that a band called Wild Lies. Now it's worth mentioning here nobody really likes to ride on the back's of their Father's success, I wouldn't of thought, but the bass player in Wild Lies is one Dylan Smith. Son of Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden. Taking it on to the next generation and you've got to love that. The song Can't Carry On."

Deep Purple

"Although I think it's fair to say it never reached the dizzy heights reputation wise as say In Rock or even Made In Japan or Machine Head. I think personally that the album Fireball is a wonderful record. And there from said album is Deep Purple with a song called Demon's Eye."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back. Well let's see how wide that circle is shall we David."

David Bowie

"And before that someone who also left us way too soon, even though he lived to the ripe old age of 69. The late great David Bowie from his 1970 album The Man Who Sold The World with the song The Width Of A Circle."

Nick Drake

"Misguided, possibly. Misunderstood, absolutely. But mostly just missed and he left us way too young and too soon. That is Nick Drake from his album Five Leaves Left with a song called River Man."

Alice Cooper

"Now when it comes to theatrics, nobody does it better. Here is fellow Planet Rock presenter and living legend Alice Cooper."

The Heavy Metal Kids/Alice Cooper

"What a shame they never made it big but they made some fantastic music. From their second album Anvil Chorus. That is The Heavy Metal Kids with a song called Crisis. The Heavy Metal Kids of course opened for Alice Cooper who we heard beforehand. They were the opening act on the Welcome To My Nightmare tour and there we heard Alice Cooper with the original Alice Cooper band from the album School's Out in 1972 with the song My Stars."

Hustler

"Well if Gary Holton had the cheeky chappy, do-what-John, London cockney fly boy act down. This crowd, at least on this song, gave him a good run for his money. This is Hustler."

"And before that from their self titled debut album we heard the band Hustler with the very eloquent Get Outa Me 'Ouse."

The Pretenders

"Take two young guys from the Ross-On-Wye area of Wales. Move 'em to London. Hook them up with the Billy Fury lookalike on bass and hook the three of them up with a punk icon goddess from Akron, Ohio. What do you get?. You get The Pretenders and there they are in there absolute full on pomp with a song called Tattooed Love Boys."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's bee a pleasure as it always is. I shall be back with you god willing at the same time."

"Until then I'm gonna leave you with three minute's worth of nonsense. Now and again rock and roll needs to let it's hair down. And nobody does it better than the Sensational Alex Harvey Band. From their 1973 classic album Next. This is Giddy Up A Ding Dong. Until next week see ya!."
