NBC 24 WNWO - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

The 2016 Def Leppard Tour

"This is our second to last show tonight here in Toledo. And it has been amazing. You know we played last night in La Crosse, Wisconsin and I swear. I mean, probably 70 percent were under 30 or maybe even under 25. I mean it was just so remarkable."

"We've been seeing this for years and especially on this tour. And especially last night for whatever reason. Just the audiences - you know there's a lot of old geezers like myself. You know our generation still are with the band and we're very thankful for that. But I guess maybe this is the upside of music piracy you know. That file sharing and whatnot, you get the younger generation are really turned on to classic bands like Def Leppard. So it's all good."

Current Self-Titled Def Leppard Album

"Yeah we knew it was a good record when we made it. It's probably the strongest record that the band has made since the Hysteria record. It really embodies a lot of the diverse musical styles that Def Leppard has dipped its toes into over the decades you know. And we kind of brought it all together for this one record. And it's been really well received. You know even when we play the songs live, it's working in that arena too."

Playing New Songs Live

"Well we're really clever about it. We insert it in the right place in the show. Honestly there is - we have the benefit of the experience of trying to do that. We know it's difficult. We know that the majority of people coming to a show, a Def Leppard show, they want to hear the hits. And we play those hits. But it's all a question of pacing and timing. And you know we don't want to subject our audience to the new record in its entirety. That would be a mistake. You know we kinda realise why people are here, But if you insert the right songs in the right part of the show in the right way then you can get away with it."
