The Joe Elliott Show #325 - Transcript

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome once again to the Joe Elliott show right here on the fantastic Planet Rock. Great to be with you. I have for you tonight what I consider to be sixty minutes of amazing music. Let's jump right on it shall we with Montrose."

Montrose

"The title track there of their fourth and final album from 1976. Montrose with Jump On It."

Mott The Hoople/Mick Ralphs

"Well some very bad news hit the rock and roll airwaves yesterday. Having just completed the Swansong tour with Bad Company, all round the UK and Ireland. I think on behalf of all Planet Rock listeners, and of course Bad Company fans I can safely say get well soon from all of us Mick. We wanna see you out there on the boards once again. We're wishing for a full recovery. So to celebrate the life and times of Mick Ralphs. Here's a couple of tunes he was heavily involved with. With two of the greatest bands to ever come out of the UK. Rock on Mick Ralphs."

"And before that from the album Mott in 1973. We heard Mick Ralphs, some fantastic playing and singing lead vocals on the track called I'm A Cadillac/El Camino Dolo Roso. Mick Ralphs get well soon my friend."

Bad Company

"Originally recorded by Mott The Hoople on the 1972 album All The Young Dudes. That is Bad Company with their version of the Mick Ralphs written Ready For Love."

Def Leppard/Rick Allen

"Well from bad news to some good news. Just a few days ago it was Rick Allen's birthday. Happy Birthday Rick Allen."

"And before that from 1980. Recorded during the On Through The Night sessions but only ever used as a B Side. The song Good Morning Freedom which we didn't play live again until 33 years later when Def Leppard played VIVA! Hysteria as a residency in Las Vegas and we opened for ourselves as the legendary Ded Flatbird."

David Bowie

"Well having been silent for the best part of a decade what a fantastic way to remake your entrance. The late great David Bowie there from 2013. The album The Next Day. The song we just heard (You Will) Set The World On Fire."

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back well we're gonna ask Genesis exactly how many Earl's there are in Mar."

Genesis

"And before that Genesis from the album Wind And Wuthering we heard the Eleventh Earl Of Mar."

Jethro Tull

"I still remember with great fondness my Mum coming back from town when I was a kid and she's says Ooh I bought you this single there's five songs on it. And yes there were and luckily I was a huge fan anyway. It was Jethro Tull. The five track seven inch single featured that classic track Dr. Bogenbroom."

T. Rex

"Well from what's commonly referred to as a bit of Prog, to a bit of Glam. This is T. Rex."

"And before that T. Rex, These days you can the track on the remastered and re-released Tanks. It was just a stand alone single back in 1973. The song Solid Gold Easy Action."

Van Halen

"One of the loudest things I've ever heard in my life was Pete Willis playing that song on the Def Leppard tour bus back in 1980. That is Van Halen from the album Women And Children First, And The Cradle Will Rock... is the song."

Woody Woodmansey's U-Boat

"Right then here is ex Spider From Mars Woody Woodmansey and his U-Boat."

"And before that we heard Woody Woodmansey's U-Boat from 1976. And Woody just released his autobiography this week. It is called Spider From Mar. I've only seen and read bits of it so far but it is hilarious from what I've seen so far. As you'd expect from a Yorkshire man with a sense of humour like Woody Woodmansey. The song we heard Movie Star."

Cheap Trick

"I do get a lot of emails from listeners telling me how wonderful they think Cheap Trick are and I have to agree with all of them. I am a big big fan. They haven't really put a foot wrong for me ever. The band Cheap Trick from the album One On One we just heard the song If You Want My Love."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week god willing at the same time."

"Until then I'm gonna leave you with this. The band split when the singer died as often happens. The band are The Heavy Metal Kids but they reformed a few years ago with Danny Peyronel the keyboard player, one time keyboard player, taking over lead vocals. And what a great album they made. The album is called Hit The Right Button. This is The Heavy Metal Kids with a song called Message. Until next week see ya!."
