Voice Of Alexandria - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

Hysteria On The High Seas Cruise Show

"Yeah I mean it was pretty unfortunate because it wasn't just Jimmy's passing but Joe totally lost his voice. And we ended up having to do a show that was very, very heavily compromised. It was the most bizarre Def Leppard show in the history of the band because Joe couldn't sing at all. Joe actually went out and introduced - he said ladies and gentleman. I never thought I would hear these words come from my mouth but please welcome Def Leppard and he walked off stage."

"And the four of us came out and Phil and I both sang Hysteria then Phil went on an sang Sugar. Andrew Freeman from Last In Line got up and did a marvellous job. He sang a couple of songs with us and he knocked it out of the park. Also Kip Winger and Eric Martin were on the cruise and they got up and did a couple of songs. So it was a very curtailed and very bizarre Def Leppard show. But because we were in the middle of the ocean with a couple of thousand people who paid a lot of money. We were obliged to do something. We did what we could you know. But we also had to make it up to those people. We offered them all a ticket for any Def Leppard show anywhere in the world at any time."

Jimmy Bain's Death

"You know it was unfortunate. There was nothing else we could do about it. Joe just totally lost his voice on the ship and could not sing. But then Jimmy's passing away was just so, so bizarre. I found out about it - about that, literally only 45 minutes before I went on stage for the Leppard show and that was particularly painful. But I know that Jimmy would have wanted me to do the show. So you know the guys in Leppard did offer me the opportunity to not do it. They said do you not wanna go on stage and I said no let's do it. So you know the show goes on and Jimmy would have believed that more than anyone."
