The Joe Elliott Show - Quotes

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome to the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Coming to you this week from the heart land of the USA. We are in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Last weekend we went through Indianapolis, Chicago. We had a couple of days off to let the crew celebrate the 4th Of July. And then we were back on our heads as it were - Cincinnati, Milwaukee and here we are in Grand Rapids, Michigan. What a tour this has been so far. We're about halfway through the first of three legs and it's really, really warming up. And talking of warm. This one'll make you sweat. This is AC/DC."

AC/DC

"On occasions you will find me in the gym at any hotel that we happen to be staying in. Alongside Phil Collen who'll be more likely to be lifting weights while I'm on the cross trainer or the treadmill. And one of the albums that I love to run to is that album. The album is Powerage by AC/DC. But that particular song I tend to skip because you try running along to Riff Raff. You'll give yourself a heart attack. It's one of the fastest things that they've ever done. AC/DC and Riff Raff."

T. Rex/Queen/Chuck Berry

"Now if you're like me when you were growing up you were listening to every single word of every single song that you listened to. You would occasionally get your favourite bands, as a song is fading off, referencing another artist. Maybe just singing a little line from one of the songs they grew up listening to. How odd that the next two songs that we're gonna hear. Reference the same Chuck Berry song. Which I shall play afterwards."

"A song Def Leppard once played with Brian May. In fact at the Freddie Mercury Tribute show at Wembley back in 1992. From the album Sheer Heart Attack that is Queen with Now I'm Here."

"Before that T. Rex with Marc Bolan of course being the main man. From the Electric Warrior album from 1971 we heard the song Get It On. The reference being towards the end of Get It On you hear Marc singing 'But meanwhile I'm still thinking'. And towards the end of the Queen song you hear them singing 'Go, Go, Go, Little Queenie'. Both references to this particular Chuck Berry song called Little Queenie."

"And before that one of the originators himself of what we love to call Rock And Roll. Mr. Chuck Berry with Little Queenie."

Psychedelic Furs/Guns N' Roses

"I mentioned at the top of the show how Def Leppard were in Chicago last weekend. Well so were Guns N' Roses. They were playing the night after we were [at Soldier Field]. So of course there was lots of email banter between myself and Duff McKagan and Richard Fortus. Who is currently the other guitar plater in Guns N' Rose. But it's worth remembering that he used to be in a band with Richard Butler called Love Spit Love and briefly a member of the Psychedelic Furs who we just heard. Although he didn't play on that particular track. The song from an album called Talk, Talk, Talk was called Dumb Waiters."

Show Outro

"And that my friends all the way from Grand Rapids in Michigan is about it for this week. It's been a pleasure as always. I shall be back with you god willing next week all the way from Toronto in Canada. Which just so happens to be the last show of this particular leg. Going home for a couple of weeks off."

"So me and my big mouth are gonna leave you with this. Oasis from the album Be Here Now and My Big Mouth. Until next week see ya!."
