The Joe Elliott Show - Quotes

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome. It's the Joe Elliott show right here on Planet Rock and I do apologise if it's a little bit more distorted and echoey this week, because we've been moving some gear around in the studio. So the room's empty, hence the echo and my favourite microphone has gone missing temporarily. So I'm on this kind of cheapy thing. But for the next sixty minutes I'm afraid it's gonna have to do. And there's some great music coming up over the next sixty minutes. Starting off with this beauty from the soon to be released, and get this, 14 CD retrospective if the Sensational Alex Harvey Band."

Iggy Pop/Keith Richards

"From the recently released Cross-Eyed Heart album that is Keith Richards going solo and away from the Rolling Stones for the first time in about 20 odd years with a song called Trouble. And before that the title track from his 1977, I think it was, album Lust For Life. We heard the very eccentric and very energetic Iggy Pop."

Stray/Dirty Tricks

"Now here's a couple of British bands that never really got very far, but to the few hundred of us out there that caught them back in the day. They were great. Starting off with this crowd. This is Stray."

"I'll be honest I've kind of forgot who I saw them open for. It may well have been Budgie. But it was at the Sheffield City Hall back in I think 1977/78. And I thought they were fantastic. The band are Dirty Tricks and from their album Night Man we just heard the song Fun Brigade. And before that we heard Stray from their Time Machine anthology with a great song called Take It Easy."

Alice Cooper

"You really can't play one without the other there. It's like not playing the piano bit at the end of Layla by Derek And The Dominoes. Not playing Switch 625 after Bringin' On The Heartbreak from the Def Leppard High 'n' Dry album. That is Alice Cooper there from the album Love It To Death. We just heard Ballad Of Dwight Fry which followed Second Coming."

Show Outro

"Revisiting the sixties in classic style there. Paul and Barry Ryan were responsible for the original version. Paul wrote it. Barry sang it and that is The Damned with their completely over the top performance and cover of a song called Eloise. And before that from the album Figments of Emancipation we heard the brilliant Doctors Of Madness with a song called In Camera."

"And that my friends is about it for this week. It's been a pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at the same time. Hopefully with a slightly more HiFi microphone. But in fitting with this week's show. We're gonna go out with something that's kind of low fi but extremely cool. This is Dr Feelgood from the post Wilko Johnson years. When they had a guitarist called Jippy. The box set is called Take No Prisoners. This was a hit single and this is magnificent. This is She's A Wind Up. Until next week see ya!."
