The Joe Elliott Show - Quotes

Show Intro

"Evening all. Welcome, it is the Joe Elliott show right here on the wonderful Planet Rock. Great to be with you again. This week from a very blustery Dublin. Welcome to Spring huh?. We've had some weather this week you could've been sunbathing in and now it's almost blowing the roof off my house. Let's hope there are no power cuts. My first tragic link of the night. This is U.F.O."

Rush

"I saw their first ever UK gig back in June of 1976 at the Sheffield City Hall where they were promoting the live album All The World's A Stage. But they had just completed Farewell To King's in Wales I believe with Terry Brown producing and they gave us a glimpse of what was to come, with right smack bang in the middle of the set, an 11 minute epic song called Xanadu. And what a moment that was for this 16 year old kid. I was hooked for life. The band Rush and there from their debut album back in 1973 we just heard Finding My Way."

Ian Hunter/Mick Ronson

"And when we come back. A song featuring for me one of the best guitar solos of all time. Hoo hoo can't wait. See ya in a bit."

"And before that Ian Hunter from his debut solo album back in 1975 featuring some amazing work, on the entire record, by Mick Ronson. But on that particular track for me one of the best guitar solos ever, ever played and put to record. The song The Truth Whole Truth, Nuthin' But The Truth."

Delta Deep

"So while Def Leppard has a little bit of down time. Phil Collen decides to make himself a very busy little bee. He's currently touring the East Coast of the USA with this lot. This is Delta Deep."

U.F.O./Def Leppard Story

"A massive influence on a fledgling Def Leppard, that band were. In fact so much so, before our first ever gig we took a band holiday on a boat on the Norfolk Broads and we just happened to be a stones throw from Ipswich. We went to see them at the Ipswich Gaumont and Steve Clark threatened to quit unless we started doing gigs because he saw the power of that band. And they were promoting the Obsessions album at the time. But they did play that song. That song from their 1977 Lights Out album. The title track in fact. U.F.O."

Show Outro

"And that my friends is about it for this week. Been a pleasure as always. As you know, I keep saying it every week but it really is. I will be back with you next week at the same time god willing."

"Until then I'm gonna leave you with this. Don't play them often enough. They are fantastic and when I do play them I always announce them as Dunfermline's finest. So you know who they are. They are Nazareth and from their Greatest Hits album this is the long version of Hair Of The Dog. Until next week see ya!."
