Phil Collen April 2013
Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen was interviewed last month by Eddie Trunk and talked very enthusiastically about the new album.
Phil talked about the current 2015 tour, the good vibes in the band/enjoying being on stage together, Vivian's health, the new self titled DEF LEPPARD studio album, his hand injury from 2013, Steve Brown playing with the band, Joe's live vocals, his fitness, the 2016 Cruise (no side bands for Phil on the cruise), Delta Deep, 2016 touring with Def Leppard, Manraze and staying in touch with Mutt Lange.
In a great and lengthy conversation Phil says he is really proud of the finished album and again suggests the last week of October will be the release date. The Friday being the 30th - as mentioned recently by Vivian.
This interview was conducted on 18th August before the Nashville show.
Listen to the full 45 minute interview below. It starts at around 13:13mins into the one hour podcast until 58mins.

Eddie Trunk Podcast - Phil Collen Interview Quotes
Def Leppard Studio Album
"We're so excited about the new album coming out. Honestly it is the best thing we've done since Hysteria. It's called Def Leppard and you know that'll be out in October. But we're just like - everyone who hears it freaks out. So yeah we're having a blast with that as well."
"Well Ronan's amazing he's actually producing the new album with us. Actually he done the last few. So he's our out front guy and he's our studio guy as well. So it really works well."
Album Release Date?
"It's done. We're actually mastering it - in fact we just heard the mastering. We sequenced it like three days ago. Sequenced the running order. It sounds unbelievable. I'm so proud and pleased with it. It's great."
"I think like it's the 27th, 29th of October. It's that week anyway."
New Song Written In Ten Minutes
"Like I said you know I really think the new Def Leppard album "Def Leppard" is the best thing since Hysteria. And if we weren't doing these things outside this - these songs. Some of them wouldn't have the right feel. With - this album flowed easier and more inspiring than any other record we've done, ever. It just - me and Joe wrote a song on 10 minutes. Which we've never done before. You know we sat down after you know the studio was breaking down and everyone was going home. And Joe said oh I've got this thing and I said wow I've got a chorus that'll go with that. We had it in 10 minutes and we said to Ronan hang on a minute we wanna demo this song. And I think some of the demo ended up on the real thing. It just had such a spirit and a vibe. And again it's something we don't normally do."
"And I think all of these good vibes with the other bands carried over into the Def Leppard record. And we just had a blast making this thing. It was really enjoyable. Every bit about it you know. It wasn't a struggle. It wasn't a chore. And yeah we just loved it. Like I said when we done albums before with Mutt. It was wonderful to work with Mutt Lange and because he's an absolute genius and it was just amazing to see what he would do. You know he'd go try this or sing this or play that. And he'd get me playing stuff that I couldn't play. Or get me singing stuff that I couldn't sing but I would try harder to please him if you like. And then you'd go oh my god this is amazing."
"So we didn't have that so we had to have something else and I think that what we got from inspiring each other and ourselves with our other projects. And you know all the stuff that's been going on with the band the last few years., I think a lot of things have been going on and we're just in a really good place. It's just amazing. I'm loving it."
Thanks to my guests tonight Chris Adler @lambofgod & @Megadeth and Phil Collen @DefLeppard . Thx to all who listened. #TrunkNation
