Friday, 16th October 2015

Def Leppard 2015.

Def Leppard revealed the second song from the new self titled studio album called Dangerous earlier on and the lyrics are available.

A short review has also been written based on the first few listens of the song premiered earlier today via billboard's website.

The second new song to be released from the "highly anticipated" new album due out on 30th October around the world.

Do you really, really wanna "read" this now? - wait, wrong song.

Def Leppard Dangerous - First Listen Review

So track three...I mean track two! from the "highly anticipated" new album from DEF LEPPARD.

Heard in a slightly different way from 'Let's Go' - eons later than it was released whilst busy watching TFI Friday on UK TV (featuring U2 - A show played by Def Leppard in June 1999) - and doing show pages for the 2016 tour - what fun!.

I mention that show because they premiered a new song on it called 'Promises'. Actually mine and many other UK fans first time hearing the track given that they got little and no radio airplay for it.

And so to 'Dangerous'. The song formrely known as 'Dangerous Drug' according to Joe - and he would know since he's in the band!.

Yes, this song is a cousin if you will to 'Promises'. A similar type of "hit single" song but way more rocking.

Starting out in a very grand way and sounding like it could be another 'All Time High' (an unreleased song from said album which no one has heard yet - making this a very odd reference....)...er... but it doesn't quite become a full on rock song.

Instead it follows the same structure as 'Promises'. And given how good that song was it's no bad thing. Starting with a similar type of guitar riff intro.

I have to say it didn't really "blow my Leppard fan mind" upon first listen but it has grown on me a lot after 5 or 6..or actually more like 10 more listens.

Usually songs that don't grab me at first tend to grow on me so perhaps it's a good sign.

The drums are the revelation of the song though. Once again a very 'Retro-Active' type sound. And for anyone who remembers that TFI Friday performance in 1999, the drums sound just like they did on that very evening.

To me already it sounds like the star of this album will be Rick Allen and his live in studio drumming. It reminds me so much of 'Retro-Active' and therefore the Hysteria B-Sides which were re-worked on that album.

To me Def Leppard is all about the drums...and the backing vocals. And both were absent on the Mirrorball tracks and the last album. In the way that I'd prefer them to be that is.

And yes those backing vocals and classic Leppard harmonies are there on that chorus. Always great to hear. Phil has said "we really went overboard" on them and he wasn't lying.

So once again this is a thrill to hear the band sounding more like I (and I would guess many others judging from the positive reactions to the "two" songs) "want" them to sound like.

I would say the chorus gets a little (just a little...) bit repetitive but in a song only 3:26 long that's OK.

The best part of the (two) songs heard so far is of course - they are MUCH better than the recent material they have released. Contrast this year's new song releases with 2011 and there was almost no reaction or interest in those songs even before they came out. Perhaps based on what had gone before on 'X/Ten / we-bought-it-we-renamed-it', 'YEAH!' and 'Songs From The Sparkle Lounge'.

For whatever reason - as the band have mentioned in interviews for this new album - the stars didn't align in the right way for the band making those albums or the audience hearing them. At least not in the way they have for this album.

I still believe it will be the best album since 'Euphoria' and depending on the rest of the yet-to-heard songs (all....1, 2...12 of them!) possibly even 'Retro-Active' itself. But let's not go nuts just yet!.

So in conclusion - if you can have one after so few listens. This is another really good track and the anticipation for this album goes on - for two more weeks. And as a fan I haven't enjoyed a pre album period more than this one.

As with 'Let's Go' these lyrics will be amended. Feel free to fill in the missing line which I can't quite make out.

Now it's off to tell Duran Duran that someone else has finally used the word "nuclear" in a song in "almost" the same way as they did - back in 1983. Is that something they should know?.

Def Leppard Dangerous - Song Lyrics

We make up to break up
Then we spin it 'round again
We dance on the ashes
Of a love that never ends

Oh yeah

The heart's never broken
Eyes wide open to the signs
And your bitter taste is such a nuclear waste of time

You get me started
You've got me up all night
You take me up and down and all the way around and round

'Cause you're
Dangerous
I'm addicted to your poison
Dangerous
I never felt a thing
Dangerous
And without hesitation
Dangerous
I will take you and jump right in

We're automatic
We're just static on the line
This love's divided
Just don't hide it, let it shine

You get me started
You've got me up all night
You take me up and down and all the way around and round

'Cause you're
Dangerous
I'm addicted to your poison
Dangerous
I never felt a thing
Dangerous
And without hesitation
Dangerous
I will wake you and shake you and take you and jump right in

Guitar Solo (Vivian Campbell)

Uh!

Dangerous
I'm addicted to your poison
Dangerous
I never felt a thing
Dangerous
And without hesitation
Dangerous
I will take you and jump right in

Dangerous
I'm addicted to your poison
Dangerous
I can't feel a thing
Dangerous
And without hesitation
Dangerous
I will wake you and shake you and take you and jump right in.
