Uncle Sam - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

The New Def Leppard Album

"This new record is great actually. It's a real - it's a very comprehensive Def Leppard sounding record. I mean it touches on all the different aspects of the band's sound through the years."

"You know we set up live in the studio and actually played live for a couple of weeks. Which most people are probably thinking well isn't that how everyone makes records?. Well perhaps that's how they used to make records but certainly not the way that Leppard make records. You know we always do it one guy at a time, bit by bit. Very methodical, very painstaking process. But we knew we wanted to capture some of the live energy that the band has. Some of that dynamic and the only way to really do that was to play live in the studio. So we wanted to flesh the album out with the different kind of sounds that the band has become known for through the years. You know more thoughtful. More well constructed songs. Songs that lean more towards pop and pop production."

Blind Faith

"You know we've even gone to a couple of areas on this record where we've never gone before. The album closer is a song called Blind Faith and it's actually a psychedelic song you know. So that was interesting. We've never done anything like that but it does sound ultimately it still sounds like Def Leppard because we have that trademark vocal sound. Not just with Joe's voice but with the rest of us. You know it becomes the identifiable sound of Def Leppard."

We Belong

"And speaking of vocals there's another song. A great song that Joe wrote called We Belong where we actually get a chance - we all get a chance to share the lead vocal duties for a couple of lines here and there. So that was nice. That's a first for us and even though we're known as having strong group vocals. It was a nice alternative for us to all be showcased individually you know."
