The Blend - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

The New 2015 Studio Album

"This one seems to have connected more so than anything we've done over the last while."

Due to 7 year gap?

"I think that's a lot to do with it. I think sometimes you know the heart grows fonder through absence and all that kind of stuff. Timing just happens to be right. At the end of the day you can say it's star alignment. It's all sorts of mad stuff but there's 14 songs on the new album. And you know depending on your mood - there's kind of something for everybody."

"With this record we didn't - actually we were making an album until we were half way through. And we went I think we're making an album. You know the idea was to write a bunch of songs. Pick two or three of them (and) maybe just do a kind of digital EP or something like that. But when we got going and we started playing each other all the ideas we had. We had 12 cooking within the first week or so of being together. And we were just looking at each other and going well how are we gonna pick three from this lot?."

"You know and then eventually the answer was well why do we have to?. So all of a sudden we had this album which is the most honest way we've ever made a record because there was no record contract to make an album for. We were done with our deal. We were free agents which was a great feeling. And when the album was done we put it on the auctioneers block and said right who wants it?."

New Songs Live

"Starting out on this tour that starts in Tokyo on - next Monday. We will be playing new music off the new album and that will also happen on the cruise. It will happen in January/February when we go back out with Styx and Tesla. And no doubt when we hit the States again next summer we shall obviously be playing more new music from the new album. But not too much. You can't overindulge new stuff."
