Sticks 'n' Drums 'n' Rock 'n' Roll - Rick Allen Interview Quotes

AC/DC - Touch Too Much

"Hammersmith Odeon has a very special place in my heart. Def Leppard opened for AC/DC on the Highway To Hell tour in 1979. Phil Rudd is a man of few words but he's a powerhouse of a drummer. AC/DC's live shows were second to none. On one of the shows at Hammersmith I had my sixteenth birthday. Bon Scott came into our dressing room. He wished me a very happy birthday and gave me a big bowl of Smarties. Cool, eh?."

Pat Travers Band - Snortin' Whiskey

"I'm Rick Allen this is Planet Rock."

"Look up Henry Smith in the Zeppelin archives. You'll soon realise how cool this guy is. Henry got me my first Ludwig drum kit. He had close ties with Billy Ludwig at the time. So the kit arrived in huge brown cardboard boxes on the 20th May 1980 backstage at the Santa Monica Civic in Los Angeles. It's only a few hours before Def Leppard are s'posed to go on stage. I'm suuuper nervous, to say the least. It's our first show on American soil opening up for Pat Travers. Out comes Tommy Aldridge to save the day. He helps me unbox, set up and tune the drums just in time for Def Leppard to go on stage. Here's Snortin' Whiskey."
