Gary Allen - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

2015 Studio Album

"We are actually you know and I gotta say that in the 23 years that I've been in Leppard this is the strongest record that we've made during that time. And I've had very little to do with it."

Writing?

"Well everyone does, it is very much a team effort. But I - you know I've been dealing with Hodgkin's Lymphoma for the last couple of years so I've been in and out of hospital and doing chemo treatments. I'm a hundred percent actually - after last summer's tour I had a few long bouts with chemo and the chemo didn't quite work. So it was suggested I do a stem cell transplant and I went into hospital in October and did that. And by all accounts it appears to have worked so onwards and upwards and I'm feeling stronger everyday, I'm good. But it did cause me to miss a big part of the recording process. We did three instalments for this record over a year. And I was there for the first and I was there for the last but I missed the messy bit in the middle."

"But yeah it was a great experience making the record. We initially started to cover - we wanted to get the rock element so we set up and played live in the studio. Which is something we haven't done since '96. So we got that - the first few songs that we got in the can were rock tracks. So we ticked that box and then we moved on to the more - you know the writing to order. OK what else do we need for this kinda of record. It's a very diverse record but it definitely sounds like Def Leppard. It's got all the elements throughout the band's career."

Release Date

"It's not quite finished yet. Joe's gotta do a couple more lead vocals and then it's gotta be mixed, mastered and they'll do all the artwork and packaging and stuff. So long story short we're not rushing it to be out in time for this summer tour. It'll probably be the later part of the year when it's released. But it is possible that we might be playing a track - the lead track by the time we get to Spokane."
