Iron Maiden singer Bruce Dickinson appeared on Tonight With Jonathan Ross in January 1991 and discussed Steve Clark's death.

Jonathon brought up the subject of Def Leppard and Steve's death which had of course happened on 8th January, the day before this interview.

At this time the show was being broadcast on Channel 4. As you can see Bruce was also in his pre-pilot days and holding a beer bottle.

Iron Maiden were currently enjoying a Number One single in the UK with "Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter.". It had reached the top of the singles chart on 5th January and would spend two weeks there.

Bruce briefly talks about Steve but also seems to have his last meetings with him confused with Phil (see video/quotes below). Bruce's part starts at 4mins in.

Iron Maiden announced on 19th February that Bruce had undergone treatment for cancer for a "a small cancerous tumour at the back of his tongue".

They have since updated a few times including a very positive update on 24th March which says he's doing very well and a full recovery is still expected.

The band are also receiving the 2015 Nordoff Robbins Silver Clef award for outstanding contribution to British music. An award won by Def Leppard in June 1992. The awards take place on 3rd July in London.

Tonight With Jonathan Ross 9th January 1991 - Bruce Dickinson Interview Quotes

Jonathan - "Let me ask you something before we chat about yourself. It's I guess a sad day for British rock because it was only yesterday, I've seen in the papers today that Steve Clark from Def Leppard was found to be dead. Did you know him?. Was he a friend of yours?."

Bruce - "Well, we know all the guys in Leppard very well and we've played quite a few games of football against them. Usually won, I have to say. But it's very, it's very sad. I mean it's sad when anybody dies but when you know the guy. I mean I haven't seen him for a while because we've been busy touring and everything. But as I understand it nobody knows exactly why he died. Whenever I saw the guy he was a strict vegetarian. So I don't know all this stuff you read about..."

Jonathan - "Well, that's never killed anyone as far as I know. Well, I know I read in the papers he'll be sadly missed by people in the rock community certainly."

Bruce - "Yes I mean it's the sort of thing where you say you know we knew the guy and we're very - obviously everybody's very sad but I don't particularly like you know going around prejudging why people died and all the rest of it. Suffice to say that he's gonna be very sadly missed and it's a great tragedy."
