The Joe Elliott Show - Quotes

Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome to Planet Rock, as you know you're already here. It's the Joe Elliott show. It's that time of night. Sixty minutes of fantastic music coming to you this week once again from the home of Planet Rock. Yes I'm in London for some clandestine meetings. Hmmm say no more. It just happens to coincide with an Ian Hunter gig this evening so what can I say. We shall be playing a little bit of Ian Hunter soon but let's get this thing started tonight shall we with some classic Thin Lizzy."

The Art Of McCartney

"Now you may have read over the last couple of weeks that there's an album coming out in November called The Art Of McCartney which is a tribute to Sir Paul McCartney himself and features such diverse artists as Brian Wilson from the Beach Boys, Roger Daltrey from The Who, Heart, Billy Joel, our very own presenter Alice Cooper and Def Leppard. Who do a very fine version I must say of this particular classic Wings track."

"I was very fortunate to spend 30 minutes with his Lordship this week on the phone. His Lordship is of course Alice Cooper. He phoned my house at 10:15 in the evening to do an interview for his radio show. And when you talk to Alice Cooper on the phone, well he sounds just like that song and that song is called Alma Mater from the album School's Out back in 1972. And before that from the Band On The Run album these days. It was a standalone single when it was originally released. But you can find it on the remastered, re-released Band On The Run. We heard Paul McCartney and Helen Wheels. The song performed by Def Leppard on The Art Of McCartney album which is coming out in November."

Show Outro

"I had a friend visit this week and we were up late watching some TV and on came a documentary on The Moody Blues called Live At The Isle Of Wight 1970 and very good it was as well. But it reminded me of an interview I once read with the bass player John Lodge when he was about that particular version of his song that we just heard there. Nights In White Satin there performed by The Dickies from an album called The Dawn of The Dickies. And he said he quite liked it. In fact The Moody Blues used to soundcheck it like that sometimes. That's something I would dearly love to have heard. And before that we heard Fanny with a brilliant song called Blind Alley from their album Fanny Hill."

"And that just about wraps up this week folks. Been a pleasure as always. I'm off to get ready for an Ian Hunter gig. I shall be back with you next week at the same time actually getting ready for a Doctors Of Madness gig next week because Richard Strange - Kid Strange has reformed the Doctors for a one off gig after 36 years. Cannot wait for that what a great week this is gonna be.
