Def Leppard's ex producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange is producing the latest studio album by fellow British band Muse.

The band revealed the news in a photo post on Instagram. The photo from the 1981 'For Those About To Rock' sessions shows Mutt with Brian Johnson, Malcolm Young of AC/DC along with engineer David Thoener (in sunglasses). Mutt produced three AC/DC albums in that time including 1980's 'Back In Black'.

Muse started recording the album on 3rd October and have been updating their fans with Instagram photo/video posts. They recently wrapped up the first session saying it had been "emotional".

This will be the band's seventh studio album following on from 2012's 'The 2nd Law' which was championed by Joe on his Planet Rock radio show. He also attended their 3rd November 2012 show in Dublin.

Mutt of course produced Def Leppard's classic 'High 'n' Dry', 'Pyromania' and 'Hysteria' albums before co-writing songs for 'Adrenalize' where he was listed as Executive Producer. He last worked with the band for 1999's 'Euphoria' co-writing three songs. The band still talk of working with him again and did briefly work on songs in the last 5 or 6 years which have yet to see the light of day.

Sav raved about their song 'Hysteria' in this September 2013 radio interview.

The Joe Elliott Show - 20th October 2012 Quote

"I have to say I'm really digging this new Muse album. There's a lot of I think Queen shining through on this record, there always seems to be a lot with Muse but specifically on this album you can hear it and there's no bad thing in that. That is a song called Madness from the new album by Muse which is called The 2nd Law."

Rock Of Ages Premiere - June 2012 Rick Savage Quote

"Well, I love Muse I gotta say. I think Muse are a great band."
