Overnight America - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

Recording Helen Wheels

"We wanted it to be kind of loose and - we weren't trying to recreate like a Hysteria sound even though I must admit we did slyly throw in a drum loop that's very similar to the one that we used on Rocket. Just to give it our identity if you like."

"We played the track - we did the whole track in a couple of days and then I went and did the vocals maybe over a - what I normally do is I sing in the evenings because I prefer to do it you know when - at night. And then we'd listen to back to it the next day and either say it's good or we could improve on it or just change bits of it or just totally redo it depending on how good or bad it was. So I would say two or three days on Helen Wheels.

Recording Hi Hi Hi

Hi Hi Hi if I remember correctly I think I just blasted that one out in a couple of hours one evening. When I was just - I was fired up you know my voice was in good shape. I was in a good place and I just went for it because like I said earlier it's one of my favourite McCartney songs and it was easy to do in that respect because it was in my head I didn't need the lyrics sheet. I just went out there and sang it as though it was my song you know. Although I'd stolen it and borrowed it. But that night it was my song and I just wanted to do it the best justice I could."
