The Joe Elliott Show - Quotes

Show Intro

"Evening all. Welcome to the Joe Elliott show right here on the fantastic Planet Rock. Coming to you this week all the way from the city of Austin in Texas. Since we were last together we have played in Irvine in Southern California, Chula Vista which is basically San Diego, Los Angeles the LA Forum where they spent 100 million dollars renovating the building. Incredible amount of money to spend on a rock and roll venue. They do play sports in there too. But still what a lot of money. And also we played Phoenix, Arizona where when we went on stage it was 110 degrees not easy but still what a crowd. While we were in Phoenix I met up with a gentleman that wrote this song. His name is John Fildder. The band British Lions."

The Def Leppard EP/Frank Noon

"A long time before Def Leppard had any major success we were given a lot of credit for breaking a little bit of new ground for recording a three track seven inch vinyl single and sending it out to record companies instead of sending the standard cassette tape which most bands did and they always got used as door stops or paper weights. And we thought well how can we avoid that well if we send an EP with a picture sleeve and everything it may just attract a little bit of attention."

"The fact of the matter is it wasn't our idea at all we completely nicked the idea off a bunch of friends of ours that were living in Sheffield at the time. A band that had moved up to Sheffield from Grantham called The Next Band. They'd made their own EP a few months earlier and I picked the brains of their drummer a guy called Frank Noon - how did you do it?. And he pointed us in all the right directions a little studio in Hull that used to be frequented quite a lot by Mick Ronson called Fairview Studios is where they recorded theirs so off we went with a 150 quid of my Dad's money and we did the whole thing for 148 pounds and 50 p. But going back the The Next Band. This is a track from their EP. It only ever came out on vinyl so please do excuse the crackles. This is a song called Never On A Win."

Show Outro

"I play that because on our journey back from San Diego to Los Angeles which is about two and a half hours. Myself and Rick Savage sat in the back of a very nice tour bus watching the DVD from start to finish and it is magnificent. I was there on the night but on DVD it is spectacular. It is Led Zeppelin from the album and DVD Celebration Day with the opening track of the night Good Times Bad Times. And before that from the EP The Next Band featuring Rocky Newton, John Lockton and Frank Noon on drums who we borrowed for The Def Leppard EP believe it or not with a song called Never On A Win. And that my friends is it for this week been a pleasure as always. I shall be back with you next week at the same time. All this live music and this touring has left me in the mood for more. So I'm gonna play you something from one of the best live albums ever made. Yes, you've guessed it, Live And Dangerous by Thin Lizzy. Until next week at the same time this is Don't Believe A Word. See Ya!."
