Slang Countdown 4 - 1996/2014 Cover Art Comparison

Sunday, 19th January 2014

Slang 1996.
1996 Cover Art

Def Leppard will re-release the Slang album in February and the new 2014 artwork is available online.

It appears to reveal something interesting about the original cover. In addition to the binary code-like zeros and ones across the cover the song titles were printed upside down in Indian Sanskrit text (if you look closely).

On the new 2014 cover the song titles are now in English (easier to spot if you turn the cover upside down). A number of other changes are visible:

  • Slang - 2014 Cover Art Differences
  • A different model's face is used surrounded by a shadow
  • The cover is darker with deeper shade of red
  • The Indian god image is now straight and not at an angle and also has slightly different features
  • The Blue Star is now embossed with a metallic gloss
  • The SLANG writing is the same style but now has more texture to it

BTW The art has been on that site since last August - I must've forgot to mention it before! but now it's almost out... And if you were quick enough to notice the iTunes Video Collection that was up for a short time last year you'll have seen the same 'new' face was used on that.
