Cowboy Hat Question

"I actually - I think I've still got one that I once wore in 1988 I think there's a shot of me wearing some black stetson sort of hat in the Armageddon It video. I'm stepping out of a car backstage at some gig but you know it's gathering dust somewhere in the back of a wardrobe. Oh I'm sure there's plenty around the area I can just take one off somebodies head."

How is he?/Football Talk

"Things are OK considering my football team just lost a play-off game. Back in the - back in England. So I'm relatively happy even though I should be miserable. Yeah it's a play-off they played two games home and away over the weekend and we won at home on Friday 1-0 but we lost 0-2 away at their ground today so 1-2 means O.U.T. bye bye!. No, no losing in the play-offs is way worse. Not making the play-offs you've got nothing to lose. Yeah well you see my town has got two teams and Rick Savage supports one, I support the other. His lot are laughing at us right now, that's what hurts the most. But you know what we didn't deserve it anyway. So you get what you deserve."

Stampede Roundup Calgary Show/Buzz About The Show

"Well that's nice to know. That is good. Well Cheap Trick we've played with those guys - I think we've toured with them twice now. But why they aren't the biggest band in the world still defies logic to me. You know they've got such an amazing bunch of songs."

How was the VIVA Hysteria! residency?

"It was such an exciting prospect for us to do that we actually said let it just be the only thing we do this year to make it special but because of the residency being so special and the internet being as viral as it is. Things go out like wildfire. Word started getting round that we were doing this so the offers started coming in and what was gonna be a pretty laid back year for us where we maybe did some recording has now turned into like six months worth of shows."

DJ Offers to get some deep fried food for Joe at the concert

"In this day and age we tend to try and eat as healthily as possible. In Scotland one of the major things in Scotland, it's like a delicacy up there is deep fried Mars Bars."

"Then obviously there must be a lot of Scottish settlers around that area. My god. You know as a kid I used to love a battered sausage or a deep fried bit of fish or something but I'm sorry I draw the line at mars bars they should be eaten - naked as it were you know take the wrapper off, eat the chocolate. But I do appreciate your offer. Maybe you could go and get me a big balloon."

"Absolutely looking forward to it. It should be a riot and a half."

New music/Documentary/DVD Filming

"When we were in Vegas - we planned to write a lot more than we did when we were in Vegas i'll be honest we just didn't - we were so busy in Vegas. We were shooting a documentary, we shot the actual show so there's a lot of preparation that has to be done you'd be amazed. It's like a swan it looks all graceful on top but it's going crazy underneath the water. That's what it's like being in a band. There was so much preparation to be done leading up to Vegas and when we got there you make minor adjustments on a daily basis to improve the show. So between doing that, shooting the video - a DVD for future release. I think it's coming out later this year. Shooting a documentary of us there for the whole month we really just ran out of time to sit down and try and write but we did manage to pull one together and that was in a two or three hour period so. Everybody's still pretty fertile when it comes to writing. It's one of the things that we enjoy doing the most we just get so little time to do it. The whole band lives - it's not like that Beatles film where everybody's got their own front door in one big house you know. We've got three guys that live in California, two who live in Dublin, Ireland. It's an event to get the five of us in one room. So to actually get together and write when we're not on the road is really hard and writing on the road is equally as hard."

"So things just take a little longer because priorities change you know. You've been in a band for 35 years and we love what we do and you've got to appreciate your legacy and all that kind of stuff but you know we're gonna just die if we don't keep writing new music but it's always gonna take a little longer than it used to do because people are married with kids and when you finish on the road you wanna go and spend time with your other half of your life and it just means you have to manage your time very cleverly. But I think pulling one song out in a two hour writing session for us is pretty quick!. And it was fun to do and there's more on the go. I mean in fairness in this day and age it's not very personal but it's quite easy to write over the internet. Many, many times me and Phil have emailed ideas back and forth to each other and it's like have you got a lyric for this?. What do you think about this riff? And all of a sudden you're building a song. It's more much intimate and traditional to sit in a room where you can see each other - the whites of each others eyes if you like but we've written songs in the past where we've never even been in the same room and some of those songs have been outstanding so for us it works both ways."
