Lep were the first act to play at the stadium after it was opened in 1991 for the World Student Games. Efforts by people including local Olympic champion athlete Jessica Ennis have failed to stop it being closed down as part of cuts by Sheffield City Council.

The band headlined an outdoor show for 40,000 fans on 6th June 1993 with Ugly Kid Joe, Thunder and Terrorvision also on the bill. This was the biggest UK headline show the band had played and was captured on the 'Visualize' and 'Video Archive' releases. Audio tracks were also released as B Sides on various singles. The stadium's reception area contains a plaque marking the occasion along with photos from the show which where put up in October 1995.

A BBC article published last night confirmed that the stadium will be closed in September. In June 2013 it will have been 20 years since the historic show.
