Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott has been interviewed by BBC Radio 4 to discuss the 10th anniversary of the iTunes digital music store.

The store launched on 28th April 2003 and celebrated its 10th anniversary yesterday.

In the 7 minute recorded phone interview Joe talked about why the band don't have any of their old catalogue for sale on iTunes, recording contracts, album artwork, artists touring more, his views on the store when it started and the impact of the store on the music industry.

BBC Radio 4 - Joe Elliott Quotes

"Def Leppard is on iTunes but only the stuff that we've recorded over the last two years because we are now out of a record contract. Our record contract was signed in 1979 before anybody knew what digital was. So consequently the rights don't exist in the contract so they don't have rights to put them up. And we're not going to let them put them up so they make all the money and we make nothing. So we said no."

Had the contract been different 10 years ago would you have been on iTunes?

"Absolutely. For us it's just a business decision."
