News - Def Leppard 2012 Rock Of Ages Show #1 Setlist Round-Up

Friday, 22nd June 2012

Rock Of Ages Tour 2012.

Def Leppard kicked off the Rock Of Ages Tour 2012 in Salt Lake City on 20th June and here are some details about the first full setlist of the tour.

The band played 18 main songs plus a 7 minute medley including 4 rarely played acoustic tracks. The 'Hysteria' album was celebrated in it's 25th year with the playing of 8 songs including 'Women' and 'Gods Of War' which have both been out of the set as regulars for quite a few years.

The second show of the tour takes place tonight in Irvine, California. It will be interesting to see if the setlist rotation mentioned by Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell happens as early as show 2. Or whether the first four acoustic medley songs will change from night to night.

Def Leppard Rock Of Ages Tour 2912 - Show #1 Salt Lake City Setlist

  • 01 - Undefeated

A shorter intro. Phil and Vivian appeared at the top of either end of the ramp behind Rick's kit with Joe and Sav 'rising' up behind Rick just as the main song kicks in (see video in next news story). The video on this and other songs concentrates more on individual and full band live footage.

  • 02 - Rocket (Single Version)

The first time as the shorter version in the USA since 12th September 2009 in Auburn, WA.

  • 03 - Let It Go
  • 04 - Foolin'
  • 05 - Animal
  • 06 - Love Bites
  • 07 - Gods Of War

If it stays as a regular in the 2012 setlist it will be the first time since the 2005 Rock Of Ages tour that it's been played throughout or regularly.

  • 08 - Full Band Acoustic Medley
  • 8A - Where Does Love Go When It Dies (acoustic) - (Joe/Sav/Viv/Phil)

Last played (as a full song) a handful of times during the 1996 Slang tour in the USA. Only the first verse was played.

  • 8B - Now (acoustic) - (+ Rick Allen)

Last played (as a full electric song) in Moscow, Russia on 24th November 2003. Only the first verse and chorus were played. Rick Allen joined in during this song.

  • 8C - When Love & Hate Collide (acoustic)

Only played once before in the USA (as a full electric song) on 4th October 2003 in Las Vegas. Only the first verse and chorus were played.

  • 8D - Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad (acoustic)

Last played (as a full electric song) in Pittsburgh, PA on 23rd June 2005. Only the first verse and chorus were played (with Joe changing or slightly messing up the lyrics). In a change from the band's regular acoustic performances only Joe was singing during this medley.

  • 8E - Two Steps Behind (acoustic/soundcheck version)

Actually a shorter version and not the full version as listed on the show page. (Realised after actually watching the full video!). This version with the song going straight into the guitar solo after the first chorus is referred to by the band as the soundcheck version as it's the one played in soundchecks. The first time since 1996 that the band have played the song in concert as a five piece. Rick played his main drum kit on the 1996 full band version in Japan.

  • 09 - Women

As with GOW if it stays as a regular in the 2012 setlist it will be the first time since the 2005 Rock Of Ages tour that it's been played throughout or regularly. Played a handful of times in the USA in 2011 and 2006.

  • 10 - It's All About Believin' - (Full Concert Debut)

Played for the first time at a full concert after it's live debut in public in New York on 15th June.

  • 11 - Let's Get Rocked
  • 12 - Bringin' On The Heartbreak (electric)
