A classic 1983 video interview has been posted online featuring Def Leppard members Rick Savage and Joe Elliott.

The interview was conducted by Bill Kenny for the American Forces Network Europe on 13th October 1983 before the show in Offenbach, West Germany.

The full unedited 17 minute clip features Sav and Joe talking about the continued success of hard rock bands and how they feel Lep fit into it. They also talked about their hopes for the future and the next album - which would of course be 'Hysteria' and not be released until August 1987. Watch the video via the link below.

American Forces Network Europe - Rick Savage/Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

Sav - "Well the next album itself won't - I can't see it being available for quite a while. We may be talking as we speak now maybe twelve months or so cause we've still got to do all this tour and then we've got to get into the studio and meet up with the producer and actually get the thing recorded and pressed. So it will be a long while before it is actually out."

Sav - "As for which direction it'll be it's difficult to say. I don't think we'll ever lose the hard rock roots if you like. But the thing that we were very pleased about the Pyromania album was that from High 'n' Dry to Pyromania. It still kept it's hard rock feel but it gave us a little bit more scope cause we introduced keyboards, we used a lot more backing vocals and it gave us a lot more scope for when we do do the fourth album to maybe just try a few more things and people won't be totally shocked."

"If we'd done a straight heavy metal third album and then gone on to a fourth album which we might feel like doing the change might have been a little bit too rapid. So who knows, I mean it'll still be rock orientated I'm convinced about that but I don't really think it'll be true heavy metal because I don't think Def Leppard has ever been true heavy metal. I guarantee people won't be disappointed - honest!"

Joe - "It's more melodic hard rock but you know, like Sav says. You never know until it's actually written. It depends what mood you are during that six weeks you put aside to write the album. It'll definitely come out sounding like Def Leppard. It'll not be a copy of Pyromania either. It'll not be the sequel!"

Sav - "That's one thing we do intend to try and keep away from. Do a fourth album and not do a track by track comparison."

Many thanks to Juanita.
