Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell is hoping to jam with his original DIO band mates Vinny Appice, Claude Schnell and Jimmy Bain.

Vivian recently mentioned on his facebook account that he contacted two members of the original 1983 line-up and hoped to jam with all three at some point. This follows his recent playing of 'Rainbow In The Dark' with Steel Panther in California. The first time he had played the track live since early 1986 at his last DIO show.

The first musical line-up of DIO featured Vivan on guitar, Vinny Appice on drums, Jimmy Bain on bass and keyboardist Claude Schnell (who joined them before the first tour started).

They were hired by Ronnie James Dio in 1983 and recorded the first three DIO studio albums, 'Holy Diver', 'The Last In Line' and 'Sacred Heart' which are due to be released as Deluxe Editions in March. Vivian was fired in early 1986 during a break in the 'Sacred Heart' tour. Ronnie James Dio passed away in May 2010.

Vivian wrote featured the following after responding to a question about whether he had taken part in a rumoured jam with the band in 2005.

"I knew nothing about that. Coincidentally, however, I've just spoken with Vinny Appice and Claude Schnell a couple of days ago about getting together to jam. Trying to get hold of Jimmy Bain, too. The original band was smoking and it would be fun to play those songs with them again."
