Rockpages have uploaded another in their series of Def Leppard related interviews this time with Bob Ludwig. Bob is the world's leading mastering engineer and has mastered most of Def Leppard's albums (and just about every other artist).
Rockpages - Bob Ludwig Interview Quote
Were you given specific instructions by the band or their management or did you have complete freedom on the whole process?
"One of the few instructions I ever got from Mutt Lange was actually on AC/DC's "Back In Black" album. Mutt attended the session and he asked me if I could EQ the top frequency at 13kHz as he "wanted a lot of 13's on the album". Mutt never had time to attend any subsequent sessions. Every album I master has a reference done first and the artist, producer, management and record company all get to comment on it and suggest changes. Most of the Def Leppard masters were extremely well engineered so what I did remained faithful to the spirit of their mixes. I don't recall there every being any major changes to the initial references on any Def Leppard record I have worked on."
Many thanks to Sakis Nikas.
