Memphis, TN - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Angie

We made it to our seats just as Journey was starting to play the Star Spangled Banner. We had great seats, 5th row center. I had never seen Journey in concert before, but I was impressed. I've always been a fan of this band, and I was amazed at how the singer sounded EXACTLY like Steve Perry. Their bass player was truly enjoying himself and made funny faces at the crowd through the whole show. He had this thing attached to his microphone stand that he would use to squirt water out into the crowd every now and then. The drummer had an awesome voice. He sang a couple of songs by himself and I was blown away.

Now for Def Leppard... I don't remember the exact setlist, but Let It Go and Slang were both played, much to my surprise. They both sounded great and the crowd seemed to be into it. Sav did a bass solo, which was also a treat. He did it just before they played Rock On. This song is so great live. The last time I saw them (last year) they played it and it was great then too. Joe came out when they started this song with his long tiger-striped coat on. I've seen pics of him in this coat before, and he looked like the quintessential rock star. He sounded great as well.

Phil and Vivian were both in top form as usual. I heard some people near us comment that the band sounded just like they did 20 years ago. I was able to get some pretty good pics from where I was... that is, when the incredibly tall guy directly in front of me would move a few inches to the left or right. As a result of this, many of my pictures came out blurry. I really loved all the stuff they had up on the big screen behind the band. Lots of pics and video clips from the old, old days... many of them with Steve, which was nice. All the animation stuff was great too.

During Rocket, it showed a rocket flying through the air and it was colored like the the Union Jack. Occasionally, the cameras would scan the crowd and they appeared on the screen. Once I saw someone up there holding an Arkansas license plate that read, "Def Lep". Very cool. It appears that Rick Allen has grown a beard. He was awesome, playing barefoot like he always does. After the show when he came from behind the drum kit, I saw that he was wearing a "More Cowbell" t-shirt, and I just fell out laughing. That's my all-time favorite Saturday Night Live skit. I got a couple of good pics of Rick. All the band appeared to be enjoying themselves, especially Phil. I loved seeing all the different guitars he played throughout the show. He changed guitars for practically every song they played. I loved the glow-in-the-dark one. I've seen it before. At the end, the pyrotechnics were really great, and on the big background screen they had animations of fireworks for a smashing end to the show.
