Portland, ME - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Creature

It was a humid and hot evening in Portland Maine USA and the big news all week that rock legends Def Leppard were coming back to town! The hype surrounding the show was quite amazing I must say but, on with the show.

From all accounts, the ticket sales were a bit sluggish(45.00 is a chunk of change)but the concert ended up being well attended, probably 5 to 6000 people showed up for an amazing performance.

Ricky Warwick was well received by the audience. His honesty about the drinking and drug references were very funny. He was an excellent performer, sort of like Bob Dylan meeting The Pogues, with a Bryan Setzer look, very good solo acoustic set, it lasted a little over an half and hour, so it was about 8:00 when he finished up!

At around 8:30, the lights go black and Disintegrate pipes in over the massive PA and that blended in to "Let It Go", which was very cool! Didn't know High And Dry was represented, Pre Phil Collen and Vivian, but special none the less.

The crowd were very much into the show, even songs off of the new record, especially 4 letter word which is receiving a lot of airplay. Joe's voice was on and the band sounded spectacular. I believe they tune down to D live and it adds a bit more punch than the old album classics did. Very good sound!

Highlights were "Women", "Slang" "Long Long Way to Go" and my guilty pleasure, "Switch 625" I had no idea they did that instrumental live, it was quite spectacular!

They ended with the triple shot "Pour Some Sugar on Me", followed by a nice Maine reception for Rick Allen's 25 years behind the kit. He led off "Rock Of Ages" which sent the arena into a frenzy. There was one encore with "Love Bites" which was very good and ended the 2 hour, twenty two song set with "Lets Get Rocked". The band was excellent, they were very gracious, which was stated by Joe and Sav thanking the crowd for coming out! Very pro and very good live, they haven't lost a single step and was well worth the price of admission, Cheers Leppard, see you again soon!.

It was a great show. I loved the set list and band's performance. Rick is really great when he plays Switch. Viv and Phil still are the best Guitar players in the world! Did you see ROCKET Extended? If don't...don't tell me about other guys. Joe sings like Freddie Mercury or Bon Scott. Sweet and hard! As I said before the show was great! Ah! Viv is always great on Love Bites. Let's get Rocked for a long time!.
