Bradford, England - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Andylgr

The new re-arranged venue was a real classy theatre venue, not the place you'd expect to see a rock gig, but who cares, they were here and so were we.

Disintegrate as usual introduced the band, who opened with Action, (a strange choice in my opinion - but it worked well). Firstly the sound was crisp and clear and secondly no one was going to be sitting down and politely applauding theatre styley. From then it was straight into Rock! Rock!, MLLAM and BOTH, which as usual was followed the awesome Switch 625. Hysteria was next and then WL&HC appeared early in the set. Phil was introduced, not for 4LW, but for Promises. Joe gave us his theory on builders, following the switching of venue from St Georges Hall.

Slang was next up, a song that never disappoints live. The acoustics came out for Two Steps Behind, but Joe's wasn't working, so he had Phil's guitar. Leaving Phil with nothing to play, so Phil played electric on TSB, which was a first for the song live. The only track from X came next - Now. We were then into the home straight of Women, Rocket (with Radar Love), Armageddon It, Photograph, Animal, PSSOM and ROA. What a way to finish a show.

Love Bites was the first encore. Terrorvision's drummer was spotted by the band and a bit of banter ensued before they closed with Let's Get Rocked, during which Rick's snare went off for a while.

And that was it, 20 songs later, it was over. Joe likened the venue to the Muppett theatre, they said their goodbyes and left. Overall, great sound and a great show and another top performance by the band.

After the problems with the change of venue and having to send our tickets back, I was really looking forward to this. I've travelled all over to see Def Leppard and the one time they come and play in the city where I live, I end up leaving the gig before the encore. The other members of the band were great (as usual) but I felt very let down by Joe tonight.

The new venue (the Alhambra) is normally used for plays and musicals, not rock concerts, but I thought it was fine. Joe obviously didn't agree, for some reason he seemed to think that the crowd weren't getting involved enough, but it seemed OK to me (I was on Row K in the stalls, so was quite near the front). Joe managed to annoy large sections of the crowd by saying things like "do I have to do this" and something about "going down to Nottingham and telling them that Bradford sucks". I think I also heard him call it "Crapford" at one point. I thought the set list was disappointing, I think it was similar to the one in Newcastle in February. Joe also needs to do a little work on his script, a lot of the comments he came out with were the same things he said when I saw them in Newcastle (especially his intro to Rock of Ages).

I have never left any gig (by any band) before the end, but left before the encore last night so I could catch the last bus home. Didn't want to waste £15 on a taxi after a disappointing night. This is the only date I'm going to on this tour, so I hope people going to the other shows will post better reviews. Sorry to be so negative, but that's how I felt about last night.

The set-list has already been gone through, so I won't repeat it. As some will already know, I had my camera taken off me, firstly because they thought it was a camcorder and once I'd convinced them otherwise, they decided digital photography was not allowed. I thought this somewhat petty, especially as loads of other people had them, but hey-ho.

The Alhambra was not a great choice for a venue and sometimes the music quality suffered. I also got told later that the spotlighting was a bit of a problem for the lighting guys too. BUT, I'm not complaining, anywhere is better than nowhere and we could have had a cancelled show on our hands.

I was very happy with my seats, I'm small, so the seated arrangements suited me fine and I had a great view from the stalls. I thoroughly enjoyed it, not sure about MusT, I think they could be good but to my mind, they need a different image for sure.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, not sure about MusT, I think they could be good but to my mind, they need a different image for sure. I had trouble hearing Joe sometimes, no such probs with Sav. Joe did make some derogatory comments to the crowd, but quite a few did stay seated and the guy I stood next to was a zombie in comparison to me. Joe was only trying to stir them up, I suppose it's quite difficult in such a small venue.

All in all, I thought it was a good show and Joe, Sav, Phil and Viv all had good interaction with the crowd, in fact Sav seemed to have a great time - I know I did.

Well what an amazing night last night at Bradford. It's the smallest venue I have seen The Lepps at but was just as excellent as always. Joe ordered the crowd to their feet in an instant. I think there could have been a bit more audience participation though.

They all looked and sounded great, they get better every time I see them I swear. After doing well over 100 shows they still give it all they have got and I'm sure no one was disappointed. Joe looked swell in his leather pants and soon worked up a sweat twirling with his mike and jumping about, Phil came on stage shirtless, looking like he was having a constant orgasm throughout the show playing his guitar as if its an extension of his own body. Rick Allen never stopped grinning throughout and got the loudest cheers I'm sure. Rick Savage, a little reserved as always but gave it all he had got, and Viv just being a show off as usual with his guitar pics tossing them high in the air and catching them.

I can never remember what's said during a show my mind always goes blank but I remember a couple of things Joe mentioned one was it was like being on the f****g Muppet Show with all the little viewing boxes and that it was 23 years since they had last played Bradford, also something about they were meant to have played St Georges Hall but it was cancelled cause they hadn't finished building it or something like that (correct me if I'm wrong on any of those).

I never stood still all night long, my throat hurt and my feet hurt at the end of the night but hey it was well worth it and I can't wait till next time, and there will be a next time (Doncaster for me). Ooh and I was the lucky person who got Joes set list ooh la la. I'm starting to sink into a depression already after being on such a high last night but unfortunately there's no quick fix until next week and then that's it for me till the next tour.

I went to the backstage door afterwards to be told that the boys wouldn't be coming out for about 2 hours so because of work today I drove straight home in a euphoric state.
