The venue is located to the North east of the city centre and within the grounds of the Montana State Fair with the Montana Fair racetrack close by.
It was opened in 1975 as Montana Entertainment Trade and Recreation Arena or MetraPark Arena and locally is nicknamed The Metra.
From 1999 to 2007 it was known as simply MetraPark Arena.
From 2007 to 2019 it was known as Rimrock Auto Arena.
Since 2019 it has been called First Interstate Arena.
It was renovated in 2010-2011.
