Springfield, IL - Media Reviews

Def Leppard @ Springfield By State Journal Register

Those who were lucky enough to buy a ticket before the show sold out in three days got their money's worth.

The British band started fast, with songs like 'Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)' but quickly settled into 'Women'.

A brooding song from the group's No. 1 'Hysteria' album, which has logged 5.2 million in sales worldwide.

After continuing through several songs from 'Hysteria' and their platinum album 'Pyromania'.

The group hit its peak with an acoustic version of 1981'a 'Bringin' On The Heartbreak'.

Featuring lead guitarist Phil Collen.

As the crowd shouted the lyrics loud and clear along with lead singer Joe Eliott, the rest of the band returned in full power to give the song some kick.

With the power set out high, the rest of the set could easily have been called Def Leppard's Greatest MTV Hits.

As the boys from Sheffield, England rolled through all the songs the band made famous on video.

'Foolin'', 'Animal', and the current channel favourite 'Pour Some Sugar On Me'.

But one question with all the success the band has been having of late is.

How can it still be heavy metal when all the girls are dancing to it?.

The band departed, only to return for an encore with 'Photograph'.

The group's first U.S. hit.
