Lincoln, NE - Media Reviews

Def Leppard @ Bob Devaney Sports Center By Lincoln Star

The delays didn't dampen the enthusiasm of a sold-out audience estimated to be slightly more than 13,000 people.

Def Leppard is one of the hottest groups in the country, with its latest album 'Hysteria' a fixture of the Top 10 charts.

And it gave the audience exactly what it wanted.

A rundown of its most powerful songs sandwiched between crunching guitar solos, anthem-like vocals, multi-coloured laser light beams and a crank-it-up attitude.

Def Leppard isn't a remarkable group, except perhaps for one-armed drummer Rick Allen (who basically plays a second electronic drum kit with his feet).

But what makes it so popular and successful is its ability to hammer our grooves and hooks around its guitar-laden sound.

Things got going a little tiring toward the end, as Elliott dragged out a 'which section can yell the loudest routine', but all in all Def Leppard produced one fine show that was eaten up by the crowd.
