Def Leppard @ Ionia Free Fair By Lansing State Journal

If you were looking for a wet T-shirt contest, then the Def Leppard and Europe concert at the Ionia Free Fair was one of the largest this state has ever witnessed.

More than 12,000 people packed the fairgrounds.

And with temperatures reaching 100 degrees, security at the front of the stage brought out two hoses with spray guns.

But the water and and all the activity it generated took a back seat when Def Leppard, one of the hottest rock bands in the country, hit the stage.

With a 14-song set, Def Leppard entertained the largest crowd ever to see a concert at the Ionia Free Fair for more than 1 1/2 hours.

The lasers, the lights, the sound and the entire show proved to be a highlight for many in the audience.

And, judging by all the mud-covered tennis shoes and water-drenched clothes, it was evident that nearly everyone in the great had a great time.
