Charlotte, NC - Media Reviews

Def Leppard @ Charlotte Coliseum By Charlotte Observer

The band's stage show packs more energy and slick visual effects than many rock road shows.

Prince had more props at his Coliseum show last month, but Def Leppard had a more unifying feel to its display of lights and lasers playing on the stage and ceiling.

Performing in the round, band members worked all areas of the stage with equal intensity.

Gruff-voiced singer, Joe Elliott, was especially omnipresent.

Every time you looked up, he seemed to be singing right at you with pure rock fury, no matter where your seat was in the arena.

Like all heavy metal shows, there were moments of gruelling excess - the obligatory self-indulgent guitar solos, the ear-stabbing volume.

But, Def Leppard didn't neglect the melodic hard rock that has landed group on pop radio with hits such as the title cut from the recent 'Hysteria' album.
