Buffalo, NY - Media Reviews

Def Leppard Isn't Cold By Patrick Dougherty

Wednesday, Feb 4 was a typical cold Buffalo winter night. Cold outside that is; inside the Aud. Def Leppard provided all the central heating necessary for the 8,000 plus fans that enjoyed their Buffalo production of the 'Hysteria' tour.

The pyromaniac's fire was sparked and kindled by Sacramento's own Tesla who opened the show.

Tesla, a hard rock band, adapted well to the round stage of Def Leppard and to the traditionally "not so hard rock" Buffalo crowd.

Their energy provided the crowd with the essential pre-concert pump.

Joe Elliott's voice was complemented with multiple part harmonies and joined by the screaming guitars of Steve Clark and Phil Collen.

It was a testimony to dedication to see the one-armed drummer, Rick Allen, playing his revolving drum kit with relentless fervour.

The best he provided along with the magic bass of Rick Savage did more than justice to the rhythm section.

The crowd's hearts were captured early when Def Leppard opened with an intense version of "Welcome To My Show".

The rest of the night was filled with other favourites including 'Photograph' and a memorable version of 'Rock Of Ages'.

Amidst the excitement were dazzling lights and banners painted with lasers.

It became obvious to me, while briefly lost, that there was no bad view of the stage as I found myself eagerly watching the show from every accessible entrance.

The show was only made possible by the high level production skills necessary to organize such a highly trained crew.

The day has come where computers control light shows and there can be no argument that the Def Leppard 'Hysteria' tour in an advancement in musical technology.

Def Leppard has opened new musical doors with two of the most important keys, knowledge and hard work!.

Well done Def Leppard...Long Live Rock & Roll!!!.
