Toledo, OH - Media Reviews

Def Leppard @ Toledo Sports Arena By Toledo Blade

Def Leppard certainly draws a hearty crowd.

Despite the steam-bath conditions, the arena turned into a wild scene of berserk fans as the alack curtains parted and Elliott made his now famous leap from the drum set to the front of the stage.

'Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop) and the second selection, 'Rock Brigade', an earlier Leppard tune, suffered terribly from a muddled sound, but the crowd couldn't care less as deafening screams met Elliott;s every move as he traversed back and forth across the stage decked out in his familiar Union Jack T-shirt.

The poor sound was the result of drummer Rick Allen and bass guitarist Rick Savage drowning out lead guitarist Phil Collen and Elliott's vocals.

Fortunately, the problem was only temporary, and by the third offering, 'High 'N' Dry (Saturday Night)', Elliott and band sounded crisp and clear.

It was apparent Thursday night that Elliott's vocal cords have fully recovered.

While Def Leppard attempts to convey an image of a close-knit band, it is Elliott who consistently stole the show.

He exudes a charisma on stage which kept the attention focused on him.
